    Hi guys,

I've been working on the right hand counter over the jab recently, and I was wondering if anyone could help me find some fights where this technique is demonstrated?

    Thanks

Rios just stopped Alvarado with that punch. Well there were a few other shots involved but he did it perfectly,

Duran caught Barkley all night with overhand rights over jabs.

I seem to remember Hopkins in general being good at that one.

The pull counter can be difficult, but is definitely appropriate.

One popular way I've seen it done is to slip the jab to the outside, or even just take it, and as it's being brought back lazily, shoot the right in the space created by the throwing of the jab in the first place. How much you want to arc or not arc it depends on the range, height, angle, etc. Mosley was extremely good at this, as was Duran.

You can also time the overhand right to land at the same time they throw the jab, slipping towards the inside. This helps because they're watching your head, the target, dip, and don't see the right hand looping around from out of their vision.

What can you do defensively against someone who throws the right hand over your jab? One guy I sparred kept landing this on me the other day and I didn't know what to do. Made me hesitant to jab.

Doubling and tripling it up consistently with your chin behind the shoulder should help. That way, there's very little time between punches for an open space to form. Feinting to trigger the shot or make them unsure works too. Floyd Mayweather Jr. counters single jabs to death with straight rights, but often backs right up when its thrown in numbers and mixed in with feints. Ducking low and jabbing upwards help further protect you since your shoulder will cover more of your head as you tuck your chin and throw. Jabbing to the body to mix it up will also make it harder or him to anticipate when it's coming upstairs.

You can also try and bait the right hand, anticipate it, and counter it. Slipping to the outside all the way to the left and using that torque to turn back into a left hook works well if you really have the timing down. I find it difficult to pull off but if you can make it work, it can do some damage.
