I am not referring to physical freaks like wilder who can knock guys silly with either hand, I'm more specifically talking about weird anomalies like frazier and Morrison who are right handed and fight orthodox but for some reason their left packs the most power. As a right handed guy who has trained in martial arts i find it mind boggling that Frazier favors his left for dishing out punishment and neglected his right so much.

Have any trainers/experts/or scientists attempted to explain this phenomenon? I know Henry Cooper cheated by being left handed and converting to orthodox but that cant be the case for everybody.

Many right handed fighters I saw if trained well had very powerful lefts I always thought power in the right for a right hander was simpler to teach but harder to teach the timing....my right hand was powerful but my left felt stronger and I could torque it better with little space...and most of my stoppages came from my left hook....its all in footwork, core strength and how the fighters brain processes concepts.....boxing doesn't have the same rigidity as do traditional martial arts for teaching form it is more fluid.

I think if you look at the right handed champs quite a few had better left hooks than rights...in fact it seems more often than not

    Was Dempsey orthodox? Mike Weaver?

Holmes had a left jab that could knock people down.

Currently active, Kubrat Pulev is the weirdest sonofabitch I have ever seen. He lacks a true power punch, but his jab was strong enough to stun Wladdy with the opening punch, and stop Ustinov and Dimentrenko.

    Frazier
    Morrison
    Dempsey

All favor the left a little

There are also guys with strong lefts but just can bomb with either hand like

    Robinson
    Marciano
    Tyson
    Hagler
    Tua

I feel like Ali was a two handed puncher in his prime, with the left right flurries

It is just learning how to box, really. Your left hand is probably 80 percent of your offense so you learn to use it. Your right hand is probably 80% of your defense, if you do it right. It is also pretty hard to hit good fighters with right hands.

Going to the body with a straight right helps, but I'm also a 6'4" super middle walking around. I love that punch because it's powerful and forces them back, but I can land it from a range where most can't reach me to counter.

BTW James Toney's and Holyfield were both right handed and ended fights with their left hooks.

It's cultural IMO he reminds me of quite a few European fighters though they are getting better at punching but passive at really committing to punching....I suspect that Europeans are not as upper body oriented in that way because of their more popular sports such as football(soccer) and kicking combative arts in general are far more popular where in the U.S. our main sports being basketball, baseball and football being more upper body oriented. Just an opinion I noticed in the pre WW2 past many European fighters seemed to hit a little harder in general of which I believe to be a result of a tougher more aggressive era. Pulev is built to hurt people but can't coordinate his power very well that's my take anyway. The eastern Europeans, Stans etc....have really pushed upping the fight game in Europe IMO.
