Your punching power doesn’t come from the coordination of your fingers, and it’s not hard to become more powerful with your non-dominant side. Usyk is left handed. Lomachenko doesn’t have power? He’s been fighting top level comp since the get go and stopping opponents. His punching power is severely underrated if anything. Guys like Crawford and Ennis show that it’s easy enough to get power in both hands. If Wilder fought in the opposite stance he might have been more powerful, because he would be better at actually setting up shots. In other sports you have LeBron (left handed and shoots with his right) and Nadal (right handed and hits with his left), so you can even develop more fine motor skills as well. Being able to fight in both stances is almost necessary these days, it’s an old school thing for beginner boxers that your words apply to.
I agree for now. The main reason i chose to start southpaw was cuz of the work the lead hand will and should be doing. Most of the boxers im trying to emulate controlled everything from distance to levels through their lead hand (and footwork like ward). And its been helping me progress through my first few rounds of sparring. my lead hand has opened up some clean straight lefts, albeit with not a lot of power yet. I also still struggle to throw hooks from my left hand with regularity as well, but if i follow your premise itll straighten out down the road with better mechanics.
True. All orthodox fighters are taught how to throw powerful hooks with their left hands which are meant to be "weak". No reason why a boxer cannot be taught how to use the same hand to throw other punches.
