Yeah I remember Nonito saying Rigo wasn't in the same league. I never thought Donaire was that good. He was just physically bigger than the guys he was fighting. The being bullied sob story he used to tell was irony at its best. Still, I think Loma is legit. Would have to favor Loma if this fight were to happen. A great big man beats a great small man.
This fight isn't going to happen. Realize that. Rigo has great skills, but he doesn't like to challenge himself.
Yeah, but Walter's had a reach of 73 inches which is longer than Floyd's reach. Reach is great. Don't get me wrong, it's a big advantage. But you can overcome reach with movement. Pep did it all the time. The only trouble he had was with his arch nemesis, Sandy Sadler.
Loma has much bigger fish to fry. Rigo will be 37 before he fights his next Uber driver on some undercard. Just retire already.
You know, it turns out that Willy Pep had a 68" at a height of 5'5," so he probably wasn't the best example. Just like reach can be critical and lead to success, so can the ability to get past reach. Reach is a hard thing to get past, particularly if the taller fighter has an opposite stance. In this fight, they have the same stance, but it's hard to really give one or the other an advantage based on that. The Rigo in the Donaire fight was like water, but I wonder if he is too small despite his reach.
