Can't see it myself, and neither can many of others, even those who payed to go see it ! Why should I go and 'watch another sport' on the say say of some on here. If throwing 3 or 4 punches a round and head butting the canvas to ' make someone miss' is your thing then so be it,to me making someone one miss is bobbing and weaving, slipping punches, not legging around the ring and ducking below the waist( which I've always though was a no no in boxing:roll but hey,if 20 or so people on here like that and think its a' masterfull' and a ' boxing lesson' then ****,so be it :thumbsup
you wouldnt have liked boxing much when the gloved era first started...as feinting, waiting, grappling were all typical
I think people are being a bit snobby here. It was a masterclass from Rigo but if people found it a tad boring it doesn't necessarily mean they are uneducated in boxing. In my opinion it wasn't a great fight, it was too one sided to be but what it was was a great display in defensive boxing.
people are bitter as the guy they backed got outclassed Donaire is still a top 10 P4P fighter , he just ran into some one who is simply a better boxer than him
There's 2 kinds of boxing fans; ones that scored that fight close and ones that know how to score boxing matches. Also anyone that thinks Rigo ran needs to go and watch some Andre Dirrell fights and learn the difference between fighting off the backfoot and running. Failing that, just stop watching boxing, **** off, kill yourself.
Love the way people moan at Rigo and don't blame Donaire who wasn't punching through rounds. Do i blame Donaire? Nope he felt the power, shocked by the speed and skill. Rigo did what he had to do, Donaire kept his hands up to defend leads and counters. It was a marvelous display. Running is what Dirrell did, Rigo pivoted and slided out of reach. Skills Pay Bills :deal.
A brilliant performance from Rigo, I knew he was more skilled than Donaire and I picked him to win on points but it was far from a confident pick. What surprised me early on was that he appeared so much quicker than Nonito and made him appear quite lumbering. As for weather it was an 'entertaining' fight, well I enjoyed the early dominance and slickness of Rigo but felt he entered cruise control from about the 7th onwards and as a result the fight became rather less interesting. It picked up greatly in the championship rounds however. An absorbing rather than an exciting fight and an a performance to greatly appreciate. Also just because defensive style fighters are not you're cup of tea you must surely appreciate Rigos craft. If you can't then I'm going to take off my 'War' hat and replace it with one that say's 'Boxing Snob.'
Probably the fight I have been most wrong about ever, I didn't think Rigo for all of his skill could hang with a seasoned p4p pro like Donaire
Man I feel bad even have some small doubt over my pick of Rigo to win, he just son'd Nonito. I'm in awe of this man, honestly. This is a Jones Jr over Toney type win, schooling of a top P4P fighter. Has anyone ever looked better in their 12th pro fight?
people had it close? I started a thread in the general pre-fight saying it would be pointless to pick Rigo making myself look a right tit, and even I would have to hold up my hands and say Rigo absolutely dominated him mostly start to finish, apart from the scare near the end
Originally Posted by Terminator_X One of the reason's i picked Rigo on points is Donaire is never quite as effective when he's the one who has to come forward and be the aggressor which i think he'll end up doing in this fight. When he does come forward he can become very sloppy trying to throw haymakers with every punch and relying on his natural athleticism to get him out of trouble...the thing is though he hasn't faced a boxer like Rigo in his whole career who counters as well and punches with such pinpoint accuracy and timing backed by good power that will hurt. I'd also say Rigo has faster hands too which could be a big factor in the fight too. I can actually see RIGO effectively pick off Donaire round after round and can see Nonito become to unravel and get even wilder with his punches. I've never seen Donaire hurt let alone knocked down but i wouldn't be surprised if both things happen in this fight. RIGO has lost concentration in previous fights, probably due to fighting so long at amateur level where he's only had to focus for 9 or 10 minutes. If he can sustain his concentration levels for the full 12 rds then i think he will make this fight pretty easy for himself. Also he has to watch out from going on auto-pilot and just doing enough to win, he definately has to get into fifth gear early and stay there as he's going to have to WIN the rounds rather then just outbox Donaire. Of cause DONAIRE has exceptional one punch power and i wouldn't be surprised if he takes out RIGO in the 1st or 2nd rds, anything is possible when you have his kind of power. I'll stick by my earlier prediction. DONAIRE to win by KO only if he does it between Rounds 1 to 6 or if the fights makes it to the 7th Round: RIGO to win either on a late stoppage probably on cuts or more likely a UD/MD/SD decision victory. Probably best not to **** on someones comments till after the fight!
Fair enough but maybe you had the wrong expectations of this fight? Everyone before hand was saying it was going to be a technical fight and one more for the purists so it was never going to break out into Rios-Alvarado or Gatti-ward. I certainly wasn't bored, loved every second of it especially as it was watching a truly great boxer put in a masterpiece performance where he controlled every round with his counter punches, foot movement and feinting...he pratically glided around the ring and was in complete control making a Top P4P fighter look ordinary which is high praise. I love a good slugfest as much as anyone but i knew this fight would be the opposite of that and can appreciate it for what it was...it was never the kind of fight to invite a bunch of mates around to watch. I will admit there are fighters that i find boring or next to impossible to watch like Miguel Vasquez, Carlos Molina(Light Middle one) and Devon Alexander who basically fight the same way round after round and don't deviate from their tactics which is dull plus they are powder puff hitters too. I do find Wlad Klitschko boring too with his Jab and grab tactics but at least he does have one punch power to end a fight.
I can see where some of the criticism comes from, Rigondeaux used some excessive movement that could be construed as negative. He didn't really need to do that IMO, the sidestepping stuff. He was making Donaire look silly in the middle of the ring and just by taking that shuffle back that he's so good at. It was needless to use some of the excessive movement that put too much distance between them. But then again, it depends what his goal was in the fight. If he wanted to completely dominate I think that was well within his capability by staying middle of the ring. But I think his plan was to frustrate Donaire, you got that sense in his post-fight interview. So if that's your goal you can do that very well by playing on his ego, keeping well out of harm and forcing errors with minimal risk taken. The side-step shuffle, the occasional spot of "running", it was all part of that.
Fat Dan and one of the judges had it by a round. smh. Also some people on twitter had it by a few rounds.
