people talk about willie like he is a beast but honestly watch his fights....nothing impressive there nowaday he would be a basic outboxers no way he beats such advanced technique like rigo ;)
take a look at his record on boxerec really most of his opponents have negative records...easy to rack wins like that lmao

    Classic thread.
The moment Rigo fought another slick boxer with fast feet he was totally clueless. Pep would have done a much similar job like what Lomachenko did.

This. Pep was way too experienced and skilled for Rigo or anyone on Rigo's resume.

Bump. Still sickens me to actually see people claiming that Willie Pep wouldn’t be any good as a boxer today, let alone even be compared to the likes of Rigondeaux. Funny how people’s perception of Rigo all of a sudden changed after the schooling he received.

Big Rigo fan but seeing how Loma toyed with him no doubt Pep can win

That moment came at weightclass that was higher than Pep’s best and at an age when Pep was retired.

A small old man losing to a much bigger prime p4p guy doesn't tell you much outside of one guy being old.

Pep and Lomachenko don't fight in the same manner. Lomachenko has much better feet.

Difference was that Pep had much more pro fights (200+) and had gone through injuries while Rigo took less punishment. Wouldn’t have mattered what weight, he was still the same one dimensional fighter who would have struggled against a slick mover, as shown from the Lomachenko fight.

Let's pretend Rigondeaux hasn't been in the ring hundreds of times. Let's pretend Pep didn't lose to lesser fighters than Rigondeaux. This is pretty obviously a competitive fight. Picking winners with 60+ years of separation is pointless to me.

It may well be pretty competitive for a few rounds but Pep’s style would be a nightmare for a guy like Rigo. I think it’s pretty ignorant to say that Pep’s style wouldn’t work well with today’s boxing. Would there have been a fighter today that would have beaten him? I think so. But Pep would not have lost to someone like Rigo. He would have constantly feinted, jabbed, outwork and moved around without giving Rigo any chance to counter.

This. No comparison. Pep is a legend while Rigo has one decent win as a pro. In all honesty I never got the hype around Rigo. He was a great amateur that never did much as a pro.
