Rigodeaux v.s Willie Pep

I rate Rigo very highly, but I'm not going to pick any smaller man vs Pep. Willie had a specific stylistic foil and, as good as Rigo is, he's not it.

Pep UD over whatever length you want to schedule it for.

 

He got to 62 without a loss because he fought all bums, and journeymen through 62 fights.

 

Pep couldn't handle the plodding Sandy Saddler. All that bobbing and weaving doesn't mean ****, if the opponent has accuracy and timing. What was he going to do with a guy who had footwork, and defense the likes of which he had never seen before. Add those old school gloves, and the first straight left hand that Rigondeaux landed would likely put Pep in the hospital with a broken face.

 

He wasn't the best of his time going 3-1 with his greatest opponent.

 

Rigs may have killed several people in the ring if he fought back then. Imagine that straight left hand landing flush with those old school gloves on.

 

I had to make a correction. Leave fringe contenders out of that, and keep it bums and journeymen. I am not all that familiar with the overall featherweight landscape back then, but looking at the amount of cans on Peps resume through 62 fights. I'd say he doesn't have an equivalent of Wilder's, or Joshua's best wins so far. Pep lost to the first guy he fought who had a decent record. I'm not questioning Pep being seen as an ATG. He was one of the best at his weight class during his time. I'm just pointing out that through his first 62 fights he fought all bums, cans, cab drivers, and journeymen. And he also lost to the first decent guy he fought.

 

I love rigo but Pep is the naturally bigger man and a top 10 atg you have to go with him here

AW man, pep is a defensive Genius! It would be a hell of a fight, but Pep wins in my eyes!! Too good defensively, too quick, and too good PERIOD!

 

No trolling, just pointing out facts. Pep through 62 fights fought all cans, bums, journeymen and one past it contender. Those are facts. Look at Pep's record through 62 fights yourself. If a modern boxer fought 62 fights against guys who had an average of 32 losses a piece, they would get laughed out of town.

 

Where was that defensive genius when he was getting mugged by Saddler.
