The networks responsibilty is to provide entertainment for it's viewing audiance, not just the hard core boxing fan. While many of us appreciate the technical skills of Rigo many subscribers who tune in want to see a fan friendly fight.Rigo just does not provide a pulsating performance for the general subscribers.

This news is only somewhat surprising because he's with Top Rank, but it looks like Arum's going to punish him for beating his cash cow in the division.

This exact same scenario happened with Pirog when he KO'd Jacobs. It's easier to screw over the older guy with the smaller fanbase, and it's more expensive to market him. That's why it was no coincidence that the cards were as close as they were. Props to Rigo for breaking the script of how things were supposed to go.

We saw what happens when the old, foreign "opponent" tries but still gets jobbed with Kotelnik-Alexander- the end result was Kotelnik being blackballed for jeopardizing the Bradley-Alexander fight and never fighting again.

And yes, Rigo fought a safe fight that some casuals may see as boring. The bottom line is beating a top 5 P4P fighter should get you at least one more HBO date to look more exciting, no matter how you slice it.

HBO should at least let Rigo fight on Nonitos undercards.

Hardcore boxing fans constitute the vast majority of paying subscribers who watch fights.

Reading these responses is downright laughable...people on this forum have ZERO commercial sense.
If a network cant SELL a fight...it won't televise it.

Fans were booing the rigo-donaire fight. If donaire doesnt come forward, there is no fight.

Who can they sell this guy against? can you even imagine an agbeko fight?!? There might not be 20 punches thrown the whole fight.
**** this "pure boxing" bull****. At some point people have to tune in...

And stop with the "bob arum is punishing him." Bob is a slave to money...as are all promoters. Bob will love anyone that makes him money.

Let the cuban go to golden boy and showtime.... they wont take him

Such utter bull****! People need to learn to appreciate all the skill and talent this man brings to the table!! Yet an aged Miguel Cotto and an average Zou Shiming can get MAIN EVENT!

Unbelievable, boxing. Just as I thought you couldn't be any more stupid.

Fan booed almost every Donaire fight since Narvaez, but he was featured more than anyone else last year (despite poor ratings when fighting non-Mexicans) and is about to take part in a rematch no one wants.

Both of them should be banned from HBO. Rigo is not exciting. But he's not that boring.

Donaire, well. He has bore me in his fights.

So stick and move fighters are boring now, is Ali boring too?

    The article is from boxingnews.

Harcore fans want to see rigo and no one in their right mind is dropping $30 on a ppv unless it is the same 1.1 million regular boxing fans hardcore viewers who watch every major fight.

And how can the network know what they can sell before they do, I've seen fights on HBO that have less views than rigo. It cost the networks nothing, you see the fans ae the ones who LOOK for the fight. You want to tell me Berto is SO popular, but Gamboa cannot even get a fight?

I think Rigo is going to fight outside the US next. Maybe in Ireland in September...

Neither his in-ring style nor out of ring personality interest or draw in fans. It's really sad but at the end of the day boxing is a business where the goal is to make money.

Ah,at last count HBO has 30 million subscribers.I hardly think there are 30 million boxing fans which tune into boxing.HBO are happy when they get a 1.5 rating for boxing ,which is about a million and a half veiwers watching there boxing program.
That is hardly the vast majority of HBO subscribers.:deal

No **** boxing fans don't constitute the majority of HBO subscribers. I never said such a thing. Hardcore boxing fans do make up the majority of HBO subscribers who actually watch fights.
