usually there is an agrement with ur family, there are going to be some hard times until things change...then the family come over when they are established and everybody lives the good life....at least they give it a chance,in Cuba there is no hope....but yes its a tough choice, believe me i know.

    - The government treats them like shiet. They just treat the normal Cubans like horse shiet (Stevenson was an exception to the rule because he used to do communist propaganda for the government in the international level).

    - Actually the only thing the Cuban government is interested in it's money from defectors. Once you leave, you can do anything you want with Cuba as long as you pay.

    - What Kid Cubano just said.

Yeah but like Kid Cubano said theres usually an agreement between the family. Believe me when my dad (a former Cuban amature boxer himself) left they came and took all his old medals and stuff. The only thing he had left is a quick photo his mom took of his things before the Gov't took everything. And no the champs don't get treated with respect, you know what happens with the olympic metals when the Cuban's bring them back? Castro holds a ceremoney where they give him all their metals. So Rigondeaux was better off leaving.

wow thats interesting about Cuba. I thought Castro would punish the families of those who leave hard, make an example of them so future stars are deterred from trying to leave.

Also if they have to buy their families back, they must be under immense pressure in america to do well. They need to make enough money after all otherwise their families are pretty much screwed and doing well is never guaranteed in boxing. You would think guys like SOlis would be more motivated to train harder too, unless they didn't leave anything behind.
