Maybe skill wise but mentally ward might be stronger.

I think Ward is only vastly overrated when people say he's better than Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez. He's not and he doesn't have the resume to back it up either. I love Ward and I love watching him fight, even when he fights dirty. You can learn a hell of a lot by watching fighters like Ward and Hopkins - masters of their craft.

Are you high? Ward cleaned out his division. Rigo has a ways to go before he is even mentioned in the same breath. And he won't make it cause he'll get KTFO sooner, than later.

Mental strength is just another characteristic.

It only comes into play if it lets you down because you don't have enough of it.

Did Rigondeaux lose concentration against a very dangerous, very intelligent opponent who had the power to knock him out? No.

So I would say Rigondeaux is definitely strong enough mentally.

I agree with you that Ward is very mentally strong, but so is Rigondeaux, no doubt about it. I can't see why Ward should be seen as stronger mentally than Rigondeaux, by the way.

If we comparing resumes, then Donaire is a better win than Froch relatively. Nobody is goin to beat Rigo with skills like that. Nobody. Plus he doesn't need to spoil, foul or fight in his backyard to get the job done.

Personally I feel Ward is slightly ahead of Rigo.

    Both had great Amateur careers.
    Both won gold medals.
    Both are also undefeated.

I used to think he was overrated but he's an absolute master.
And that was one of the most enjoyable displays I've see for a while last night but he has nothing like enough names on his resume to top Ward at the moment.
    Not by miles.

Ward has beaten precisely 0 A-level fighters. His win against Kessler was controversial, he beat a weight-drained Dawson and he struggled with Bika.

Compare that with Rigo's demolition of A-level Donaire!

Ward has a deeper resume but not a better one.

This is a tough question. If you're talking about pure skillset, talent, they're very hard to seperate. Rigo's intelligence in the ring was perhaps a little underrated before last night, but it's on par with Wards. His physical attributes, speed and power are more impressive P4P. I don't know, it's a really hard call.

In terms of pure skill + physical talent, Mayweather, Rigo and Ward are up there at the top of the game.

Lol at people comparing wards amateur career with Rigondeauxs. Rigondeaux has won gold twice and is the greatest amateur boxer of all time, of all time.

I'm not willing to go as far as saying he's better than Ward. Rigo's crazy skilled, but Ward is a stylistic chameleon who has proven himself against a wide variety of opponents and shown he can adapt to pretty much anything. Rigo hasn't had the opportunity to show this kind of adaptability. Rigo's defense is a little better though. Probably his footwork as well.

Rigo won 2 Golds and never lost since (actually since 2003). Of course Ward has the higher number of quality wins, but the best single win between the two is Donaire, a top3 P4P-er.
