Rigondeaux knocks Mares out

I thought that even before last night. I just never have found Mares that impressive. Rigo would destroy him.

 

He might. I'd certainly favor him to win.

Mares is much more comfortable and more effective as a pressure fighter than Nonito though. Forces a busier pace, tends to make for rough and even dirty fighting, and has very good punch mechanics himself.

 

I think Rigo could knock Mares out but Mares also has the style to trouble Rigo. Rigo is someone who beat Donaire at his own game in a high speed chess match and made him fight out of his element as the aggressor, Mares is quite comfortable coming forward, throwing in high volume, and cutting off a ring. It's the complete opposite style match-up. But I think Rigo's ring generalship and accuracy is enough to control the angles and catch Mares coming in aggressively. Great fight.

 

What happened to that left hook. It was hitting air.

 

I've always said Mares fight was the toughest possible fight for Rigondeaux. I think Mares has the best chance of beating Guillermo out of anyone at 122. Not sure about Rigo at 126, he's a tiny 122 pounder as it is, but hey, if the money is right, you gotta do what you gotta do

 

Rigo will win. He will stink out the joint again. Mares doesn't have the skills to catch Rigo. He will follow him around the ring all night and get countered. It will be another "masterful" performance from Rigo where he runs the entire fight.

I think a guy like Mikey Garcia would beat Rigo. He would cut the ring off much better than Donaire/Mares and get to that glass chin. Garcia also wouldn't get countered silly because he is much more fundamentally sound than Donaire and wouldn't just look for the KO.

 

Sorry this is not Hype .
Anyone with two eyes and knows the sport knows Rig's is too seasoned a fighter for Mares.

I do agree Rigs is getting allot of hype after his win with Donair and thats to be excepted after a big win like he had last night.
But regardless of the Hype, Mares at this stage of his career, has nothing the Rigs has not already seen as far as style wise.
If this fight happen with in the next 6 months or even 10 Mares loses.

Mare does not have the power, speed nor skill to chase Rigs around the ring. In this fight Mares would take a technical beating and more then likely he gets stopped in 6 or 7 rounds.

 

Hahaha he beat Abner Mares in the amateurs. He'll destroy him again.

 

I give the edge to Rigo. Though Mares will pressure like nobody else has.

Also I believe Rigo is a bit naive inside, particularly on the break. His hands drop and waits for the ref, Marroquin and Donaire both showed this.

Got to give Rigo, Donaire and particularly Mares credit for the resumes they are already building. All of them have shown a desire to prove whos the best rather than just lay claim without proof. Shame Pacman and Mayweather were so pathetic, they'd rather embarrass the sport.

 

Maybe he will. But Mares will go out on his shield. He won't follow Rigo around the ring without punching like Donaire was doing.

Mares will have a go which is what we want to see. Win or lose.

I see it being an edgy fight the first few rounds as Mares cuts him off and occasionally swings in a shot after a combination, like once every minute or so. But Rigo would counter him every time, and I don't see Mares standing up to the body shots for 12 rounds, especially with the way he'd have to chase Rigo. Moreno would stand in front of him and try to defend in the pocket, Rigo would simply counter him and leave.

I would definitely call a stoppage for Rigondeaux, but the fight would definitely be entertaining because Mares wouldn't hesitate like Nonito (or pose the same one-punch threat).

 

Because alot of the posters here live vicariously thru their fighters, thats why. Also explains why some of them are extremist and absolutists about a fighter's expected win and whatnot.

Its a definite style clash, and conventional thinking is that its a bad match-up for the controlling counter-puncher. We're gonna see the exact same style match-up on May 4th.

 

Your entire theory is based on Mares fighting exactly like how Donaire fought Rigo. Which won't be the case.

Mares won't make the same stupid mistake Nonito did. Donaire tried to outbox a far superior boxer and he paid for it.

Mares will pressure Rigondeaux from the outset and make things uncomfortable for him. If you don't think pressure won't work against a slick fighter like Rigondeaux. Then you need to watch Mayweather vs Castillo 1.

Smart pressure can neutralize a counter puncher. Mares is not some stupid go in straight type of pressure fighter. He actually mixes smart boxing with his pressure.

The fight is 50/50 if it ever happens.
