Miami at club ELE11EN 44-year-old Rigondeaux knocks out Arias: video Knocked out some journeyman with a bodyshot. On the undercard Lourdes Juarez beat MMA fighter Isis Verbeek,at least that s what I gahther from online, knocked her down pretty good.
Rigo was only a small favorite here, the knockout was actually plus money. Impressive for a 44 year old natural bantamweight. Can you think of any other 118 pounder doing anything past 40?
I saw a video on ig. The club was packed, only Lambos outside,I guess Rigo is well connected. He can still kick fringe world level guys butt pretty easy even at this age.
Rigo could beat up on these kind of guys and make decent money doing so until he's 50. He's a grandmaster. Wonder what the rest of his career will look like and who they'll try to feed him to next.
He doesnt have any promoter or tv backing so undeniably he will have to take a B side corner in a significant fight where everything will be stacked against him and lose. My 2 cents.
If only he did this more often in his fights. Still frustrating how Rigo's career panned out considering how talented and skilled he was. Could have had a much better career if he just let his hands go more and actually gave promoters a good reason to keep him around instead of constantly stinking out the joint.
I always found his blackballing weird-he wasnt the first fighter to have boring exhibitions or not be but a purist’s dream. Still he was an elite fighter…i dont know..kind of weird.
There's been tons of fighters who were notoriously awful to watch with their spoiling styles. The problem with Rigo was that he clearly had the power to put fighters away but chose not to and always played it safe. Just did not give a damn about putting on a show and exciting the crowd when he had the ability to do so. Was too content with just potshotting away and avoiding getting hit while the crowd booed. I can appreciate his skills and defense, especially from the Donaire and Teon Kennedy fights where he was close to flawless, but he just didn't perform to his full capabilities enough. If he had fought like he did early in his career he could have looked sensational beating Mares, Frampton, Quigg. Instead Rigo shot himself in the foot by refusing to engage more and look impressive while giving the other top fighters a good reason to not want to fight him, which ultimately led to his career downfall.
Somewhat true I just found it weird hiw he was blackballed,by his own promoter even.Arum hated that he beat Donaire, then I think he was with defunct entities such as RocNation and SMS Promotions(50 ce t s company). Just weird to me that a promoter in this world couldnt sell him to the right market. And lets be honest Framton,Quigg and Mares wanted no part of him.Mares even said it publicly. Btw acc to Gary Hyde s book he had his team bet a large sun of money in Ireland of him finishing Willie Casey inside a round-which he did flawlessly, like the orher 2 performances you noted.
Hopefully he's getting paid well enough fighting lower level opponents. It would be unfortunate if he was forced to keep fighting for a couple more years.
