I think this isn't the best move for Rigodeaux but I still think he will be a great fighter regardless. The sky is the limit for this guy even without Freddy Roach I just hope he stays focused.

On the other hand a talent like Rigondeaux deserves a full-time trainer not someone who will have him as #3 or #4 on his roster. In that sense the move could be beneficial.

This is what always annoys me with so many Cuban fighters after turning pro. They develop a sense of entitlement and have too many people blowing smoke up their asses, hence the reason most of them don't make it.

Totally agree people, this guy's talent is such that he deserves undivided attention. He know where he wants to be and I guess he felt Roach wasnt delivering becos he has to many fighters in his camp. The law of diminishing returns has started to come to effect.

If only it was about Rigo splitting with Roach... but it's also about Rigo pulling out of his HBO fight, claiming a back injury while Roach claiming lack of conditioning, and returning to Miami where Cubans like to party more than to train, that's not really the same as just splitting with the coach.

yea I'm not too down with Rigo going to Miami LOL but you know some people thrive when in an environment where they are praised by their surroundings. In LA Rigo is just another dude and maybe that was hurting his psyche.

is not just the cuban boxers is every to prospect that signs proffesionaly they usually get a lot more attention when they're coming up and get preferential treatment.. deservengly so or not i think rigo ir right...roach gets paid pretty good to train these boxers so that's what he should be doing.. every professional boxer knows what they need to do in the gym but if they're paying a trainer then that trainer should do his job and earn his paycheck,, if not why have a trainer if all he's gonna do is work mitts with you and discuss what you have to do

The more I think about it, actually, the more I agree with Rig...you have to understand that this is an A-level fighter we're talking about, and if he only has a part-time coach, I can see how he may feel that effect his mentality. You want a coach that takes a lot of time with you...you don't want to simply be "blessed by the presence of the great Freddie Roach".

Not that this is definitely the case, but I'm sure Rig knows what works for him, he's one of the best amateurs of all time.

You gotta admit though that the prospect of Rigo being Roach's main charge once Pac retires was mouth watering. A combination destined for a run at greatness.

I'm sure it is, but he's probably used to having trainers who really focus on him, and I can understand that.

And as someone else mentioned, there's also the language barrier. He's probably lonely considering everything. The guy is human after all.

Maybe he can join Cotto in going with Steward.

Terrible idea bro. It's a style mismatch. Steward ****s up natural talents. He's the master of textbook stuff like Wlad, IMO Cotto is a good choice because he has a lot of the stuff Steward likes just never perfected it without a good trainer. Roger Mayweather or any solid old school coach is what Rigo needs.

Who was Sweet Pea's trainer BTW? Is he available?

Fair enough if he wants more attention, personally i dont see why he'd need it when conditioning and that, you'd think as long as Roach is there for sparring and skill stuff thats main job as coach, but each to there own and all that.

But where exactly would he expect himself to be going careerwise after 5 fights?! Its good if he wants to move more quickly, but if he discussed that with Roach then im sure that he would move him on more, IMO hes one of the best people in boxing to judge this sort of thing well!

Rigo must be lonely in LA and that is why he wants to return to Miami, where a lot of Cubans live. He should have a mental discipline in order to blossom in Miami. There are a lot of temptations for him there and he should be strong willed enough to resist the temptations there.

Although I think that he should do what he thinks is best, I too was startled by this. Especially the lack of conditioning part is annoying to hear given what they say about Cubans in Miami.
About your other point, sure, it's early in his career, but I do think he has been fighting too little. He's had only 16 rounds since his debut a year ago and half of those was in one (slow) fight. And now they're apparently trying to fight Anselmo Moreno without even one fight at that division. I think he needs to be moved faster with ambitions like that, maybe he does too.
