El Chacal has gone utterly silent since his embarrasing quit job from a month ago He went from posting on twitter numerous times a day to radio silence https://twitter.com/rigoelchacal305?lang=en
Icarus flew too close to the sun and fell from the sky. Rigondeaux went up 2 weight classes after 1 year of calling out Lomachenko and took a loss to the better and bigger man. Why should he be ashamed? He knew the deck was stacked against him from the beginning. I'm starting to believe that he is a little stupid. #1 Lomachenko is too active in the ring. His competition was mostly made of orthodox boxers who he could out maneuver and counter. The old guys in my gym called it years ago when he called him out at 126 that Lomachenko was too active as a fighter for slow Rigondeaux. #2 Rigondeaux team didn't get him any money. Rigo got $200,000 for that fight. After all these years in the second biggest fight of his career after all the flack he gets from people he is still content with making peanuts. He could have stayed with Arum who got him more fighting Rico Ramos. #3 He should have saw the trap. Rigo was asked to come up to 130 but has never had 1 bout, not even a tune up, north of 122. He should have just known that his power would not carry and that he was fighting a giant, for his size, in Lomachenko. Did he have to prove something? Not really but he is depressed about it now. Something is mental with many of these Cuban fighters. Maybe except Lara. His bread is buttered nicely at PBC but Gamboa, Abril, Rigondeaux and Ortiz have bigger issues professionally and personally.
He has to shut his mouth after he disgraced himself and his fans. I would be defending right now if he had gone out like warrior but his quit job has turned me off him.
I agree with everything here, except maybe that he has nothing to be ashamed of. Don’t talk a big game and then quit. Go out on your shield. He held and held and then held some more while not firing off any punches. Then make up a terrible excuse of an injury? Cmon. He was no match for a bigger, faster, younger, superior boxer. No shame in that, but take the L like a champ.
This. I've talked a big game before and got my ass handed to me. That's life. Learn to be humble, to laugh at your failures and move on, and to give the other guy credit.
His purse was 400K so it makes sense to speculate that he walked away with 200k. Should last him for a decade, if he knows how to manage it.
I think underpaying fighters can have a negative effect on fighters, it shouldn't but I think it does happen. He wasn't going to win either way, but I just think 400,000 is **** poor....
It's the second biggest purse in his career, I believe. And both (the first one for the Donaire fight) from Bob Arum -- the promoter Rigondeaux sh** on in Twitter. Had Rigondeaux accepted the proposition to fight at 126, it would have been 800 or something thousand.
Roc signed him to a $10 mil contract when they were overpaying to recruit their stable. His fight by fight official purses don't take that in to account.
