A special moment of the fight that stood out to me was....

...when Rigo busted the **** out of Donaire's eye in the last round with his straight left cross, Donaire covers his face up with his right glove and has his left arm cocked back ready to whip his left hook as his last resort.

Not that this in itself was what I think was special to me but really how easily Rigo knew what Donaire had left and what he was going to do. As Donaire backed himself into the ropes in that round, Rigo didn't really unload his straight left as often as he would have if it were a an inferior opponent (as he did vs Rico Ramos... straight left after straight left after straight left).....

..instead Rigo chose to fight Donaire Lead Hook vs Lead Hook because he respected the **** out of Donaire's left hook even when Donaire was beaten to a pulp, broken bones in his face and all. He just wasn't going to afford running into Donaire's left hook counter by being risky and attacking with his favorite punch, his straight left cross.

I felt like if you were going to take a snap shot of Rigo's brilliance in a few seconds, you could take that specific moment because he made that adjustment in a fraction of a second. When someone has an amazing counter lead hook, you don't come at them with your back foot straight cross as a lead punch, because the fighter with the counter hook will half step back and knock you the hell out (as Donaire has done viciously in past fights).

Instead Rigo just played the hooking game, and he knew he was fast enough, and good enough to whip his right hook and get out of distance just before Donaire's left hook came zooming by.

I wonder if anyone else on this forum found this moment of the fight particularly amazing.

If someone could make a GIF that would be sweet lol.

Anyways, thats the end of this cool story. :deal

I don't know if it was the 12th but there was a distinct moment I remember where Rigo landed 3 shots and each time stepped right out of the range of the left hook in perfect balance. He was undoubtedly prepared for it.

I need to snag that fight from somewhere, seriously. I think I could watch it 100 times in awe of Rigo.

When I saw Rigondeaux and Pedro Diaz warming up before the fight and they were just doing the 'block the left hook' move... I though that they had worked a lot on this.
I think Pedro Diaz is one of best trainers out there; they would make a great team.

I remember this moment. Even at that point, when Donaire was vulnerable, Rigo was still cautious and didn't lose his head. What stood out to me (and what usually stands out to me about Rigo) is his grasp of distance. It's refined to a pretty crazy degree -- when he moves out of range, he only moves as much as he needs to in order to evade the punch by a very small margin, which leaves him in range to counter again. He's really precise and economical.

Before the fight there was talk about Rigo having no right hand. His right hook was his best punch in the fight imo.

Also in the 12th near the end instead of throwing the left straight and over committing, he threw the left uppercut instead because the way he through it he was out of range for Donaire's hook because Donaire was flat footed but Rigo was still in perfect balance to dodge it just in case, the guys a genius
He landed it twice without barely changing his foot position

Being on ***** street and being buzzed are different things, ***** street is when a fighter is almost completely removed from his senses. If Donaire had truly been that hurt he would have fallen over trying to back up.

He had just ****ed Donaires right eye up. He was also still wary of the left hook, cutting the ring off at that stage would have given Donaire more opportunities if he decided to throw.

Nonito throwing a left hook while running away like that? No way obviously. Gotta plant feet to land his money shot.
Nonito ran a 2x 360 degree circle around Rigo.
Besides, you said it yourself: he hurt Noni's eye. Even more reason to cut of the ring and/or throw a right hook right into a dazed Donaire.

He ****ed his right eye up. Donaire was virtually blind to Rigo's left hand at that particular point, no need for the right hook until Donaire got his awareness back and began throwing the left hook wildly. Rigo remained composed like he did the full 12 and didn't even give Donaire the chance to hit that left hook on the back foot or not. Like I said, if he cuts the ring off (moving to his right) this gives Donaire a chance of possibly land that hook. No point taking away that punch for virtually 11 rounds then give him the chance to land it big in the 12th whilst in survival mode.
