Lomo is not only the best pound for pound fighter in boxing today, he's already at ATG in his weight class. I struggle to find names in history of anyone from 122-130 would would defeat him.
Lomo is so good, he takes the wills of not only top ten boxers, or champions, but undefeated pound for pound champions. This one was not close. Sure Lomo had a 7 pound weight advantage, but now we see he had an even bigger skills advantage.
Making another fighter quit, especially at the top ten, the championship level or undefeated pound for pound level is rare in boxing unless there is a confirmed major injury. In just 11 pro fights, Lomoachenck has made his last four opponents retired on pressure and skills alone. Out of curiosity, who has more no mas wins on their record?
He's not an ATG yet. He just beat a past prime fighter who was unranked in his weight class . He was even unranked in the division bellow him. He came up two weight classes. PAST his prime and pushing 40. Many guys beat Rigo based on that performance. And not just beat him , but put a hurting on him , unlike Loma. Valdez would possible knock him out cold and Linares would simply destroy him. Lets not forget what you think about guys with over 350 amateur fights. Rigo had over 400.
He quit out of injury. If you give Byrd no credit for his win over Vitali , then you shouldn't be giving Lomo any credit for his win either.
How open do you want to be with the question? Melankomas of Caria maybe. It's reported getting the opponent to quit by neither punching nor being punched was what he was all about. "At any rate, although boxing was his specialty, he remained as free from marks as any of the runners; and he had trained so rigorously and went so far beyond others in toilsome exercising that he was able to remain for two whole days in succession with his hands up, and nobody could catch him letting them down or taking a rest, as athletes usually do. Then he used to force his opponents to give up, not only before he himself had received a blow but even before he had landed one on them. For he did not consider it courage to strike his opponent or to receive an injury himself, but thought this indicated lack of stamina and a desire to have done with the contest" http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roman/Texts/Dio_Chrysostom/Discourses/28*.html
If the x-rays show that the Rigo's left hand was indeed broken, it will take some shine from the victory. Yes, fighters has continued on with broken hands before and at times even won, but it is of course a clear disadvantage. I do think Loma looked great, but if Rigo'a left was hurting so bad that he was unwilling to pull the trigger with it, it should definitely have helped Loma.
So he beats an almost 40 year old with less than 20 fights that was 2 weight classes lower and he's an atg but Marciano beats an almost 40 year old with almost 200 fights and the most knockouts in history as well as being on a win streak and only a weight class lower and he's overrated? Give me a break.
I suppose you get all of the picks right also. I did pick Duran over Barkley when I first heard about the fight. I thought Duran will win that one.
absolutely I did. I heard Barkley was scheduled to fight Duran after beating Hearns is June.. I thought he was an ESPN fighter before the Hearns fight. He had a fight with Kalambay lost a 15 round decision and beat Olajide but was knocked down... I knew.. Barkley was beatable for Duran prior to the fight. He lost to Kalambay,Nunn,Benn in the same time frame.
Once more I say... when your argument hinges on convincing strangers over the net you are enlightened and predicted a massive upset....30 years ago, you need to rethink your argument. Especially after you blew an easy to call present day prediction. You picked Rigo because you wanted to look smart in event of an upset to give your Duran bs some credabilitly....well it backfired, you just look even more stupid now.
