Rigondeaux clearly has a lot of talent and beat the best in his division in donaire. Do you think he will go up in weight? Should he have stepped up already? If he chooses not to will he never be seen as great and a man with no heart?
He's a great fighter already. He will go down as one of the greatest Cubans ever. As for moving up, it really doesn't matter. He could move up to welterweight and Arum still wouldnt be interested in getting him a fight. There's less for him at 126 than at 122. He's not going to get another fight with Donaire, Lomachenko is out of the question, and Vetyeka and Fortuna wont go near him.
I wouldn't say Frampton is clearly ducking, he wants Leo next then Rigondeaux, which is perfectly fair considering he's not challenged for a title yet. Ideally Rigondeaux fights the winner of Martinez - Hasegawa in the Summer (although not much money in getting Hasegawa stateside) as his last fight on his TopRank contract, signs to GBP, then fights the winner of Carl Frampton - Leo Santa Cruz to unify the division. After that move up in weight and fight Mares, who has said he'd take the fight.
Rigon is just getting started. Like many fighters under that banner, he is just awaiting to jump ship so his career can really take off. I don't see him moving up past SFW
I've read that he wants to go up to 126 and 130, maybe even 135. So what is the story here? Is he purposely hanging out at 122 waiting to fight LSC and Frampton, or is Bob not willing to give him fights at 126 or 130? In answer to the question, going up in weight and showing you can beat bigger men will enhance anyone's legacy. Harry Greb, Roberto Duran, etc.
I believe that he would eventually go up to 126 to seek bigger challenges, but considering that he is already small at 122, it would be reasonable to stay at 122. Would be good if some of those challengers like Leo Sana Cruz or Frampton would fight him though.
