Rigondeaux's Knockout Philosophy

Don't know why technical boxers get so much criticism. You're already a real warrior by being a pro boxer. Some are more gutsy (or dumb, depending on how you look at it) than others. But a guy like Rios isn't exactly a big PPV star. Bradley raised his stock but not by much. What he did is probably counterproductive considering such low reward and long term health deterioration. Fighters need to stick to what they do best. It's the fans who have to change. Certain ones need to learn how to appreciate defense. It's become a lost art.

Lay off Rigo. He does have KO power and he does go for the kill when he sees blood. Donaire didn't get stopped because he has an iron chin and a size advantage on top of that. That version of Rigo last weekend would've stopped everyone else at 122.

 

It fits the style. Depends on your attributes/style obviously.

On esb, people way too easily start a whole new thead for trivial stuff which can be mentioned inside existing threads.

All I said was the 12th is the only round where Rigo took more than a couple steps forward.

 

Donaire was respecting Rigondeaux power, Donaire knows he could have been put down.

 

God let's give Rigo some ****ing credit here.

Donaire can take so little moral victories away. All he can do is say he KD'd him and that he only ever moved back in the 12th round. That's it.

Call me crazy now but I really never thought anyone would dominate 2008-13 Donaire for 11 rounds, regardless of how they fought one way or another. Really says something with Donaire's competition that Rigo is the one to do it and to do it so decisively.

Funny how one fight can change everything. Now I think of Donaire and I wonder if the 30+ years he carries and now going onto his 5th division, will take a toll on him as it always does, quicker so for fighters in the lower divisions.

As for Rigondeaux, I still harbor more doubt in his chin than those of the other P4P fighters and I really question how he will be matched up now. I see no one at 118 or 122 that would match up to him. I hope for the Mijares/Terrazas winner.

 

Wlad is the most extreme with this philosophy, though he's an extremely hard hitter fighting in a division where no opponent is close as skilled so he still gets the KOs.

Even in that brutal round against Wach he still did the 1-2 hug, Wach wasn't even hitting back and Wlad clinched.
Maybe I'm also unfair, that punishment would have stopped most guys.
