Rigondeux vs Donaire = FITY candidate

It has all the ingredients. When I first looked at the fight I thought because of their styles it would be a boring chess match but when I actually look at the films of how each guy boxes there is no way they could do that for 12 rounds.

Donaire is too impatient to do that and honestly it plays right into Rigondeux's strengths. Donaire will not seek to jab his way to victory as it would end up looking a lot like DLH vs Mayweather with a similar result. A split decision victory for Rigondeux who is the best looking technical boxer I've ever watched on film.

I see this fight as a career defining fight for both fighters. I think no matter who wins there will be calls for a rematch unless one of them wins by TKO. Either fighter could win by TKO, KO, or through boxing. There hasn't been a fight this evenly matched in terms of skill in many years.

At the same time this fight favors Donaire. Donaire has the chance not only to win this fight but to win by KO. I think the only way Donaire wins is by knocking Rigondeux down and he's got enough speed and power to do this.

I see it looking similar to Pacquiao Marquez in terms of how the fight goes. Someone is going to get knocked down or perhaps both will be and the fight will be competitive every moment of the fight. The only thing HBO has to do is market this fight properly.

This is a PPV quality fight that we are getting for free. If Donaire loses there will be a rematch. If Donaire wins but doesn't look impressive then it's a boost to Rigondeux as it will look like Rigondeux was robbed.

 

That would guarantee a win for Rigo who cannot fight as anything but a counter puncher. I've seen Donaire go into slugging mode. He's a boxer puncher while Rigondeux counter punches.

However I have seen Rigondeux go aggressive in fights when he's not worried about the other fighters power. I think in this fight he will have to be defensive and if he does he will lose on points but it's possible someone of his skill level could change his style. In the Olympics he was not one dimensional and didn't fight in the style he's fighting now, if he goes back to that we might see something different and with Donaire one punch could change everything.


Actually with either of them one punch can change the fight. Rigondeux could hit Donaire to the body and down him at any time. If for sure wont be slow paced though. Donaire wont have a chance of he fights like that and has to up the tempo and try to fight his style not Rigo's. Rigo will try to slow it down and make it ugly and boring but that didn't work too well for the last few fighters who tried that against Donaire and got knocked out.
