How highly do you rate it? Rigondeaux defeated Donaire via UD. Donaire had not lost since his second professional fight. It was a display of boxing excellence over a four weight champ (3 weight at the time) who has beat the likes of: -Vetyeka who took Chris Johns '0' (has wins over JMM & Derrick Gainer) -2 stoppage wins over Vic Darchinyan a world class operator -4 weight champ Jorge Arce who beat the likes of Pac conqueror Singsurat -Nishioka who beat Johnny Gonzalez & Rafael Marquez -Two time champion Narvaez who's only other loss is to Inoue -Montiel who is a three weight champion who beat fellow 3 weight champ Hasegawa etc -Ukrainian Sydorenko who beat Agbeko & drew twice with Cordoba They were 31-1 vs 11-0. How highly do you value it?
Excellent win indeed, but it wasn't flawless of course. The scorecards were too close, but 3 rounds for Donaire plus the knockdown wasn't far fedged at all
Probably one of the better wins of the past 10 years, honestly. Donaire was on an incredible roll and touted for truly great things. But this is modern boxing, where the likes of Adrian Broner can manage to hold multiple weight class belts, so take it with as much salt as required.
Donaire was fresh coming off one of the best calendar years of the last decade+. If you didn't rank him easily in your top 5 P4P then that is on you for whatever reason. It didn't age as fantastic as might have expected, as Donaire moved up to 126 and couldn't bang with the elites. Rigondeaux made quite an easy nights' work out of him, minus the random KD. Definitely expected Donaire to win that fight, I admit.
Donaire was a phenomenal talent in his prime. Rumors were Donaire was getting trained over the phone by Garcia leading up to the Rigo fight. Nonetheless he was P4P and Rigo put on a clinic (besides getting flash KD) ND moved up too much in weight (Walters) and he has a ton of mileage now. He was almost Pac like talent in his prime. I hope Donaire turns back the clock and beats Frampton.
