While I think the tweaks made to their championship policy do more harm than good, the fact remains that over the past couple of years, the RING belt has actually been defended with more frequency than the point when it was first established. And, really, the worst example of a fighter sitting on the championship occurred only a few months after the championship was established (Ayala at 122lbs).

You beat the champ or the number 1 contender, you're the champ. Hos can that lose credit? And the Ring has rules for how a fighters gets stripped. If you follow the rules, you keep the title. Simple really.

While Viloria and Mthalane > Igarashi, Igarashi has a totally real lineage from Jaro, who got it from Pong, who got it deservedly from vacancy from Koki.

As far as RING champs who aren't the lineal champ in my eyes:

126 Mikey Garcia - Chris John unrightfully bypassed, and still my #1
140 Danny Garcia - Matthysse unrightfully bypassed, and still my #1, and even Peterson unrightfully bypassed (I don't believe the Ring has a consistent operating scheme when it comes to those caught with PEDs)
CW YPH - Huck unrightfully bypassed, and even if YPH is #1, he is not a lineal champ in my eyes at all

For Hopkins/Dawson I, the salaries were 1 million and 850 thousand. Forget which one got which. But very very few make "millions and millions of dollar per fight." Very few.

Vladimir Klitschko has the Ring Mag Belt and he and Vitali are the best fighters on the planet period. They not only beat all the top heavyweights, but they beat all the other fighters in all the other weight divisions. Put Vitali or Vlad into a ring with SOB Ward and watch Ward get knocked out, or Mayweather, etc.

At least the Ring doesn't carry taxes the way ABC's do in every fights. The Ring belt is the least of your worry when it comes to $$$. Other fighters are forced to vacate their ABC's because of too much taxing that they can't give out. ABCs are one of the issues that kills the essence of the sport.

Igarashi's lineal though. He follows a chain that's been going ever since Canto beat Oguma back in '75. Kind of amazing that it's been unbroken since then, but it has.

    Plus...Igarashi ain't bad.;)
