Ya know who started it all??? Ali back in '77 when he fought Shavers @ MSG. Star Wars music... A boxing writter just sent me this info. Last week I remember talking about Kelly's Korn music he comes in to & said he better NEVER change it & that he's prob supertitious & never will. Looks like I was right. Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik: "I play Korns 'Here to Stay.' Because you really dont have a lot time. So you need to find something thats quick, has the energy right from the rip. When I was listening to it, I knew it would get people going. You only get 30 to 40 seconds and its perfect. And it became part of superstition we won big fights with that song, so were sticking with it." Andrew Golota: "I think (my favorite choice) it was Kanye (West's "Stronger"). The last time (vs. Mike Mollo) I got Kanye West. Before that I used Eminem, Usher, one time about ten years ago I got entry music in the Rocky movie. It was back in '98 I fought the guy who called himself T-Rex (Corey Sanders). You got ten rounds, it was a good fight. (Does the music actually help your performance would you say?) Yep. A little bit. Not a lot, but little bit. Gets the adrenaline going. If you come out with the lousy music, the beginning (of fight) not so good."
I loved Jermain Taylor's walk in song for the Pavlik rematch, "Apologize". I thought it was very cool the first time hearing it.
How about coming out to "Sweet Dreams are Made of This" like Steve Forbes did against Dela Hoya. :rofl Would that get your adrenalin pumpin?
mike tyson's first entrance vs holyfield was amazing even though he got his ass kicked by holyfield that entrance was great
I seem recall hearing or reading that Larry Holmes was the first to enter with music. I will search to verify when I get a chance.
ALI invented this shizz when all the people in zaire started chanting " ALI BUMBYE YAI" (whoever you spell it) when he came out against foreman
Tito's entrance in the Hopkins fight. One of the best song I ever heard. Took me quite much of time to find it though !
Larry was always synonimous with McFadden & Whiteheads ..ain't no stoppin us now... It is now used by David Haye.... It was also used by Uk .. and later Kronk Based light heavy champ Dennis Andres. Great tune btw...
Some of the weakest entrances: Vitali coming out to "Hotel California" by The Eagles. John Ruiz coming out to "NY State of Mind" by Billy Joel. Wlad coming out to "Simply the Best" by Tina Turner.
I think it all kinda came around after watching Elvis enter the stage for a live show to a massive Richard Strauss Fanfare.... It was awesome.. Ali loved showmanship and he also loved Elvis... I remember the robe he wore into the ring against Kenny Norton.. Elvis gave it to him.. it was full of sequins and rhinestones......
The song that some Detroit band wrote for Tommy Hearns prior to Lenoard/Hearns I is still my favorite: Sugay Ray they say, He's the fastest in the land, But Ole Tommy Hearns He's got hammers in his hands. Classic **** right there!
