Brewster was inactive for over a year, coming off of a near career ending eye surgery, and coming off of a loss. All of the wars took their place on him, and he tried to fight a counterpunching style so his eye wouldn't sustain punishment. He was washed up. I don't blame Wlad for fighting the clowns in his title defenses, but saying no one can possibly beat him when all he's been doing is fighting top 20 fighters (with some exceptions) is laughable.
He ducks the ones that beat him - he usually gets VITLAY to settle the score in fact Out of his last 7 fights I'd say only PETERS, Brock and Iggy were legitimate challenges, the rest were bull****. I accept he fought Brewster to erase that loss but it's since came to light that Brewster shouldn't have been in the ring that night. Not WALDS fault but it still looks bad.
In the Thompson fight. Wlad's stamina now is very good. Among the best in the divison. While his chin is average, his skills, size, footwork, defensive guard, and clinching skills make him tough to tag clean.
You guys are making it to easy for KLITschko, by hyping Haye you make WLAD's choice of Haye look almost justifiable next. After Povetkin drops his strap, WLAD's case for the ring belt is only going to get stronger. Don't make it easy for him, by letting him look impressive against the likes of Haye. Haye has insured by his little stalking stunt, that he only need beat someone with half a pulse to get WLAD in the ring.
The 2nd Bryd fight was legit. At that point, wasn't Byrd #1 in some quarters? A while back when Sanders was on the come back trail, some wanted to see a re-match, but those who dislkie Wlad did not because Wlad would have won that fight.
It certainly wasn't a problem but at the same time Thompson doesn't fight at exactly a blistering pace. In a fight where Wlad HAS to throw more punches to keep his opponent off, to outjab an oppontant with a good jab etc. and is getting hit often, his stamina has yet to be shown. Who knows Wlad's stamina might be very improved but I think it has to do with him fighting at a much more slower pace and not throwing near as many hooks/uppercuts. This is good but against the elite of the division he may need to resort back and he WILL be more tired.
It's hardly legit to rematch someone that's over the hill that you absolutely owned when they were in their prime, it was a ridiculous fight. WALD should have rematched Sanders immediately like Lewis did with Rahman, rematching him when he was even more over the hill than he was when he beat WALD is hardly going to impress.
I agree Suge. I cant believe it, but i agree with you I think Haye needs more than 1 fight against a guy past his prime which, we all know team Haye will pick, before he gets a shot at the #1 guy. I would love to see haye pick a guy in the top 5,6,7 instead of a tomato can
He wants the most beatable name opponent he can find, even though he promised a top 10 in October...it's becoming evident we'll have a bum in November...but it's not like he will be held to any standard, it's all ceremonial...he's virtually guaranteed a shot. Look at how all of the other HWs are reacting to Haye. They are all saying you haven't beat anyone, you don't get a shot, come see me 1st, etc... Well, what did Wlad say...???..."How much do you weigh...I have to fight Tony Thompson 1st..."...That's it, KLIT is dying for this fight.
I think it comes down to $$$ and contracts. Peter fight..we will see, Valuev is with DK. That will be a contract issue, Chagaev...hurt...so why not fight Haye for the $$$. It will be very interesting who wlad fights next year. !st thing 1st. Povetkin gets KO'd
Thompson fight for example: This content is protected IBF/WBO world champion Klitschko said: “Haye has been talking about me a lot. I want to fight him and shut him up.” “I think a fight in England would be special. I fight better when the crowd is against me.”... It's not bad, he certainly scored...however, he started popping up right after the body shot...he would have generated more power had he started the uppercut as he was coming up...decent punch anyways, it hardly hurt Thompson though.
What made the Wlad/Thompson fight so difficult to watch is that Wlad never really backed TonyT to the ropes and go for the kill when it was there for the taking most of the fight.
What a lovely combination, to the body, then the head, the first one is hurtfyl and actually moves Thompson who is correctly set by the looks. Then that lovely little step back to ensure he isn't countered should the second punch fail. But that is symptomatic of his concerns regarding his chin though - a lot of fighters would have been looking for the third, killing punch. But you can only admire the correct footwork he applies, really. He's very light on his feet for such a big fellow.
