No problem there. If Vitali beats Peter he retires after that. Peter wins the belt again and we finally have Peter-Wlad for all 4 belts because in the meantime Wlad will have beaten Valuev or Ruiz for the WBA belt.
And all the other opponents were mandatories. You guys should think before you post - or stay away from alcohol.
Wlad proved his stamina in the Peter fight. He threw lots of punches, did not take a break on the ropes, and had plenty left in round 12.
I've yet to see him in a fight when he is not setting the pace though. He is wonderful at inflicting his fight-plan on his opponent, but again, I would suggest it's become important because it is very important. Who would you like to see win out of Vitali and Samuel? I know you are a Vitali fan, but you must admit that a Peter win followed by a showdown with Wlad would be better for the division?
...Wrong. Brock may have been number 1 in the International Bum Federation, but it was a voluntary defense, not mandatory.
Like McGrain said though, he still completely controlled the tempo against Peter, and he also wasn't pressured effectively. He wasn't in trouble for the entire fight except for the rabbit punches.
vs. TOS. It was a cut that supposedly went down to the optical nerve according to the ringside doctor.
Yes, half the fight...go ask Ambition Def how many times he held, I don't remember off the top of my head, but it's pretty bad. Only fighter of this era to give John Ruiz a run for his money in that department.
You can maybe make some case for his chin (although I think it's ok...not above average but he takes a punch much better than he used to). But I don't get the stamina thing at this point...he hasn't gassed out in a long time...and not only that...he throws an above-average amount of punches for a HW, and constantly over 12 rounds...he actually has pretty damn good stamina although he usually takes a break around the 5th round in every fight.
Setting the pace requires more stamina than playing defense or counter punching. And keeping it up over the duration of rounds requires some serious stamina. Wlad's punch out put is rather high. This stamina thing about Wlad is bogus. All the fighter say his stamina is great. Something was just not quite right with Wlad vs Brewster in the first fight. I'm not sure if a body shot by Brewster did it, or Wlad was ill. I have seen over 2,000 boxing matches, and the loser does not have that hard of a time getting up unless something is wrong with him. I'd rather see Vitlai beat Peter because no man has ever taken 4 years off, come back with no tune up fights, and battled injury to re-gain a title at Vitali's age. It is unfortunate, but a fluke injruy vs Byrd and a cuts loss when he was up on points sidelined Vitali's career. Boxing fans deserved to see a re-mathc. Byrd and Lewis wanted ZERO part of a re-match. Color them lucky, they knew they were not going to win the re-match.
