Your making some pretty radical statements on Azumah Nelson, Nelson should definately be in there, he was a truly great fighter.
You ever seen him go to Madison Square Garden and take on the Great Salvador Sanchez in only his 13th fight .... He actually takes the fight to Sanchez and rattles him .. Azumah is in a different league to Hatton and Mcguigan. I like Mcguigan he had a hell of an effect in Northern Ireland .. With all the troubles in Belfast he was a man with 'united' support, both Protestants and Catholics loved this guy.

Hatton is worthy of the HOF for sure, he may not have a brilliant resume but he was a true world champ and top draw.

Some people's statements on this site astound me sometimes .. Some guy last night in the classic section was giving Pernell Whitaker a load of **** and now we have some guy coming on making out Azumah Nelson was some kind of over-rated bum ..
Im pretty certain that some people on here comment on fighters who they have actually never seen fight ..

    This is total rubbish.

I still buy The Ring (for my sins) but i remember just before the Malignaggi fight they but him in the "Sure Shot" category. Now they have changed it ???

This is the hall of fame, not the hall for ATG. Hatton pretty much carried the sport in this country on his own for around 4 years. When Calzaghe beat Lacy he helped out with that but even in light of Calzaghe's 'dominance' he never created the kind of atmosphere and build ups in the way Hatton did. Only Oscar since 2002 onwards created the same amount of money that Hatton did and nobody else in years to come will provide such scenes in Vegas as he did.
If Hatton retires tomorrow then he will be a shoe in 2014 mark my words. Mcguigan is in there FFS.
Oh and how the hell does Azumah Nelson not warrant his place ?

WTF ? Really ? Sweet Pea along with Roy Jones Jnr ( Maybe Floyd too ) has been the best fighter seen since the Leaonard days !

No, it was basically a guy from Australia making some points about Pernell is a nobody because his style bores him and he only likes Tyson, Ali and all the other famous names ..
He was trying to make a point that he only rates guys with big fan bases and 'famous' fighters and Pernell doesnt rank in that group .. It was basically a radical point of view from a guy who didnt know anything about boxing.

I have a total opposite point of view, while i like and respect Ali, Tyson, Robinson, Louis and all the other 'Marquee' names, i think they are given far too much exposure in comparison to other great fighters.
I personally would like to see some ESPN classic, shows that concentrate on guys like Arguello, Sanchez, Ezzard Charles, Carlos Monzon, Pernell, Chavez and many more like them ....

Dempsey and Marciano are a little over done too but you never see a Tv show dedicated to Larry Holmes ....

I could watch Whitaker box all day long, beautiful fighter. I agree that guys like Monzon, Sanchez etc don't get a fair crack of the whip where seeing their fights are concerned.

I'm never sure how much the ownership rights comes into play where thats concerned? I'm sure theres some ****er sitting on a load of great fights from the 70s and not letting us see them!!

My general beef with this is that whenever theres a Boxing show on tv and it shows a a few classic fights its always .. Ali v Frazier 1, Rumble in the Jungle, Thrilla in Manilla, Louis v Schmelling 2, Louis v Baer, Dempsey v Tunney 2, Dempsey v Willard, Marciano v Walcott, Tyson v Spinks and Tyson v Berbick ....

Even if your not a boxing fan you've seen Tyson v Berbick and Tyson v Spinks a billion times and gets boring ..
Howabout we have a few shows on Evander Holyfield, some of his fights were some of the most exciting ive ever seen.
Howabout we have a show documenting Holmes v Norton and Holmes v Shavers.
Howabout we have a show dedicated to the career of Wilfredo Gomez..

This kind of thing would inspire the next generation of boxing fans and get them interested more in depth in the sport, theres more to boxing than Ali and Tyson. I sound like i hate these guys but i like them as much as anybody, its just its the same ole fights that everyone has seen over and over again. Maybe Gaz is right and its about rights to show footage, thats so frustrating.
Imagine a boxing show that is shown everyweek that details the career's of guys like Emile Griffiths, Bob Foster, Jose Napoles, Eder Jofre, Erik Morales, Naseem Hamed .. Every guy is a different story, that would be sansational !

Defo deserves it for what he has brought to boxing. It is HOF not ATG. Sounds like the ring may be trying to bait him out for another fight. Afterall, they love the money.

I hadnt ever really thought of the HOF as an actually fame thing I had thought it was recognition for great boxers :patsch

Anyway I think history will be kinder, in 5 years people will realise what he brought to boxing.

it really depends where the cut off point is. If size of fanbase isn't a factor (and personally I don't think it should be) then you're left asking the question 'is someone like David Diaz good enough for the HOF?' when looking for a decent comparison for Hatton.
The article is bang on, while you can pick holes in anyone's record if you really want to, the fact is Hatton's is the easiest to pick apart, that's the price you must pay for havng such a manufactured career and trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the idiot fans...sadly for him not all fans are idiots, some actually know something about the sport.
