Ring has really put the boot into Hatton this month

You talking about me, cocker?? because if you are you are twisting what I said. Make your own argument, don't twist mine. :good

Nelson was a decent fighter who made his name on the back of a Gomez win and two losses to ATGs....sound familiar?

McGuigans CV just doesn't stack up and he shouldn't have been inducted on the basis of the way that he supposedly pulled the "community" together (it didn't)...on this basis next we will be inducting Ghandi because he had a decent amateur record FFS :-(

As everyone knows who has read my recent comments on this site regarding Hatton, I'm not a Hatton 'nuthugger!'.... but they make it sound as though becoming 'just' a world champion is a bad thing? Ridiculous!

If Hatton isn't Hall of fame worthy then why is Barry McGuigan? Why is Lennox Lewis? Why is Frank Warren???

Hatton may not have been up there with Sugar Ray Robinson but what he did for the sport over all was nothing short of amazing. The fan support he got was a phenomenon in itself and has brought much attention to mainstream in a time when the media coverage and TV coverage almost view the noble art as something as the black sheep of sports. No other sports person in the UK can sell out tickets like Hatton can just by himself, that's a fact.

You place Lennox in the same category as the other two?

And? Look at the context in which he's trying to use Lennox.

I think Lewis wa more talented than Hatton and McGuigan but you also have to remember he got knocked out twice by very average fighters.... Hatton got knocked out by two of the best fighters in the twenty years or so....

Look at their best victories too.... Tyson and Holyfield were Lewis's best wins but they were both shot (although still very impressive wins) and the same with Hatton in regards to Tszyu and Castillo.... not much between them when you look at it like that.... but yeah, I know hat you mean, sounds a little out there at first.

I don't think that really counts as putting the boot in, just judging him by the highest standards, which a fighter should be judged by if he's talked about as a Hall of Fame candidate. Hatton as a Hall of Famer is a subjective debate. By the standards I think a Hall of Famer should be judged by, he wouldn't get it. By the standards they do actually apply, he's probably got a good shot.

Whether he does or not, Hatton has a good, solid resume with a number of top 10 operators on it and 2 pound for pound fighters. He can be pretty pleased with his career's work. As for the Mayweather and Pac fights, I don't think a couple of losses to p4p #1 fighters should necessarily preclude a guy from being nominated. Kostya Tszyu, who Hatton beat for the title, is, in my view, a surefire Hall of Famer, but he never fought anyone of the quality of Mayweather or Pac. I don't think it's fair to mark a guy down for trying the absolute elite and failing.

Lewis whether you like it or not is now widely regarded as one of the best heavyweights of all time. To suggest his place in the hall of fame is undeserved is mental.

It's OK to compare them in terms of fame but outside of that there is simply no comparison

Lewis also destroyed Golota and Grant and completely schooled Tua. He also holds a win over Klitschko. The Ruddock win was also very impressive. His resume is no way comparable to Hatton's.

^ I wasn't having a pop at Hatton, it's just I think there are better fighters to hold up as a benchmark for HoF entry.

I stopped buying The Ring when they had an article saying that Corrales may well have still been alive today if he had been DQ'd against Castillo for spitting out the mouthpiece.
