Greg Haugen in beating Pazienza, impressed me as a resourceful operator. I would have never expected Greg to beat Paz.

A lot of the old school guys like Billy Graham, Joey Archer, Joey Giardello, Charley Burley, Luis Federico Thompson, Archie Moore, Jose Napoles, Miguel Canto and Luis Manuel Rodriguez fit the bill here. Of course Roberto Duran too, though he did have pretty good physical tools. Even in podgy mode though we saw his wiles.

Some more recent examples include Stevie Johnston, Bernard Hopkins and perhaps JMM too.

Can't believe I praised JMM and Bernard Hopkins .... all in one sentence too....

Good call, Greg is underrated as a thinking man's fighter. There is no bigger proof of his ability to use his brain to overcome disadvantages than the Camacho fights.

 

And of course late Muhammad Ali as well... Was staying in the game way later than when his physical ability went to ****.

Salvador Sanchez would have to rate a mention here. Though his freaky stamina probably puts him in the 'athletic' category. But boy was he a smart operator...

 

Steve Robinson. He kept his hands high, picked his moments, and found a way to out-box far superior (on paper) boxers.

 

Toney was athletically gifted in his rawest form.
He could of been a football player so i heard....

 

Giardello, Hopkins and Schmeling are good picks, Schmeling had a great right hand but i think the calculated timing of the highest order had a big part in that.
