Ring IQ Highest/Lowest

I completely agree with the guy who said Khan has low ring IQ, he seems to fight with his heart not his head. Which is a pity as with the talent he has it could be the difference between being good or great.

 

feel that arthur abraham in the froch fight deserves a mention as lowest ring iq. wtf was he doing out there? and guys like bhop, calzaghe, the klits and mayweather have the best ring iq, with martinez not that far behind. pbf is a very smart fighter inside the ring, he's shown this against corrales, castillo the second time round, judah, hatton, odlh, however dumb he seems outside the ring. and i'm starting to wonder just how dumb he is outside the ring, he clearly craves attention and he's managed to get it in pretty much everywhere to do with boxing even when it seems like he won't be in a relevant fight again

As a German I have to admit: Abraham and Huck seem to have one of the lowest ring IQ´s I have seen so far.

 

Floyd's IQ is pretty high but his adjustments are usually very simple and not as dramatic; he just has good fundamentals as an outside fighter and learns which counters to apply if his opponent is coming forward or backward. The ones that stand out are Judah and Hatton; he came in with the game-plan to be aggressive against Mosley beforehand. Marquez really learns as he's going in the ring with most opponents and can come back from anything and exploit the holes in his opponent bad enough to get a KO. Hopkins probably takes the cake. That crafty mofo. Pacquiao definitely has a high ring IQ though, good ring generalship and has lots of built-in tricks he can use to switch up the rhythm and disrupt his opponents flow. He can be outboxed by the elite, as he has been occasionally but they would have to be a dynamic ATG fighter (Morales, Marquez.) DLH back in the day was crafty and versatile, knew how to get the job down most of the time by controlling the ring.


I think Mosley gets a bad rap for being a dumb fighter; after Oscar he just fell in love with his Athleticism, but he was able to adjust in their first fight and was able to set up good counters in his early WW days. This is why Roach before the Mosley fight said "I respect Nazim and what he's done in the sport, but lets face it, Shane probably knows more about boxing than any of us" and calling him a great counter-puncher now before the fight.


Average IQ I'd go with fighters like Cotto, Adamek, Tito, boxers than can adjust to problems or take advantage of openings but need guidance and aren't dramatic shifters in game-plan.


Mayorga, Toney,...the brawlers are pretty dumb, hence they're brawlers. Katsidis isn't a vegetable but he could do better. His trainer seems to give him good advice. Abraham can only fight one damn way. Maidana I think learns where the openings are, like when he countered over Khan's jab with his overhand right, but his overall gameplan never shifts and he can be controlled.
