If I had to pick I would just edge Froch, but only just (as in 51-49). I think it could be a great fight though.
After getting shown up so by Ward, Kessler could do with an easier fight. He's got better boxing skills than Froch but has an equally predictable stlye. If Kessler loses htis then he's out of the super 6, which means sidelined from the main events in the weight division for the next 18 months at least and thats severely going to damage his lasting career - not much opportunity for a comeback. It's a pretty big deal to be faced with right after such a loss, and having an undefeated world champ as his opponent isn't ideal. Froch is also a man who fights from the first to to last minute of the fight and won't give Kessler a few rounds to get back into the groove, which is not ideal - especially bearing in mind its Kesslers first fight under a new trainer. Even the expectations of the home crowd could work against him if he gets too selfconcious and eager to impress. Normally I'd give this to Kessler but in the circumstances he's actually the one who has it all to prove here. If Kessler isn'ts quite over the shadow of Ward's win, if he's not 100% gelled and comfortable with his new training regime, if he's a little distracted about what this fight means for his future then I'm going for the ref or Kesslers corner stopping the fight in the second half with Kessler starting out looking ok, but gradually taking a progressively worse beating each round.
A while ago I had Kessler winning an easy fight, but I changed my mind and I think Froch will take the fight to him and stop him late. I think Kessler's confidence took a hit in that loss to Ward and now is the perfect time to take him out for Froch.
I don't think either result would be considered an upset, certainly the bookies don't think so. They are more or less deadlocked, maybe slight advantage Kessler and thats only because of the fights location.
Froch's problem is guys who move, Taylor, Dirrel, Kessler will be stationary, right where Froch wants him. Froch ko.
Nah. just the fact that kessler changed trainers and has a big fight at home should refresh his mindset enought to put the past behind him. Another poster said that froch is a perfect opponent to get mikkel back in the groove, and i couldn't agree more. The losses for kessler came against guys that didn't out tough him, but out skilled him. No way does froch outskill him, and his toughness will just prolong his beating. Kessler, for my taste should win almost every round with a cautious euro ref jumping in to save froch around the 9th round.
2 scenarios - Either Kessler through the fight with Ward and will KO Froch. Or he cant pull the trigger anymore and will get KO'd by Froch. I dont see Froch winning by decision.
I will not be surprised if Froch beats Kessler. Will the referee allow Froch to use the famous "Billy Goat" punch?
