Max never beat a notable heavyweight whose name started with the letter “J.” Fits did.

    Stracey/Napoles Mexico City
oh yes it was shown in the United States, I would say probably the CBS Sports Spectacular, I do not remember being live or pre-recorded. Yes I remember that fight vividley. Stracey took a count, then later got Napoles against the ropes and administerd a two fisted frightful beating! - 99% in was pre-recorded.

In 1975 they would pick marciano to beat foreman and dempsey over ali so simply laughable

    6.Gene Tunney
    7.Bob Fitzsimmons
    8.Jim Corbett
    9.Muhammad Ali
    10.Joe Frazier.

Apart from the positions of Tunney, Fitzsimmons, Corbett, Ali, Frazier and everyone affected by those positions, it's not that bad.

A lot of the oldtimers were still alive in 1975, Nat Loubet was the Wrestling guy but he was Nat Fleichers brother in law and John Ort (rating scandal with Don King) was Loubets son in law. So the ring ratings were not far off from Nats F's opinion.

I watched a lot of boxing in the 60's & 70 until now and there were benefits like one lineal title & many bouts. A lot of excellent old school trainers & a lot of live fights. I saw some great fights & great fighters in the 80's 90's 2000 - Now

I am very impressed with the amateur development now and it brings experienced guys into the pro's. Years ago it was the tough gyms, tough streets, and tough times. Every era had there benefits & negatives.

The heavyweight division today is the Big fit heavys mixed with the fat guys who can train down to 200lbs. The big guys like Joshua,Wilder,Fury, & a few others have good amateur experience & are large men although Wilder was ko'd in the 200lb division.

Still there is a lot of talent in the top guys in both the 200lb division and what i will call superheavyweight division. Once the cream rises to the top it will be interesting to see how the 200lb guys move up to fight the superheavys 200+

As far as rating go there were great fighters in every era (with a few standouts) I have no problem with someone rating the fighters that came 1st ahead of the later if they feel both fit into the great catagory. Cant argue with Johnson,JeffriesDempsey,Louis,Marciano,Ali being in someones top 10 especially if they lived the era. Ring magazine is just an opinion just like the many opinions on ESB who perhaps may be better informed or may not.

I have seen a lot of posters & experts that were very sure about their opinions in upcoming fights only to be proven wrong. The good thing about the classic forum & Ring magazine etc. is you can not be proven wrong because we are talking about people who are dead & we can only go by how great they were when they were called to do so.

Funny how Nat Fleischers son in law implemented his vision of the top ten ATG....It wasn't until the Fleischer clan got far enough away from influence that these ratings started to make sense
