I disagree. It's a good fight, how would it hurt to have it for the Ring belt? pretty much everyone is calling Margarito the man to beat at welter after his big win over Cotto so they might as well make it official, he deserves it if he beats Cotto and Mosely in back to back fights.

Yes, he is, he's 3rd, behind Margarito and Cotto.

Not unless Williams does something at welterweight before then. His last 2 fights have been in other divisions so they've removed him from the welterweight rankings.

    My thoughts exactly.

Mosley doesn't really deserve to still be rated in the top 3 anyway. Assuming Margarito and Cotto both win their next fights then the winner of their summer remtach will be the new champion in a truly deserving title decider.

Williams is the rightful number 2. Explain to me how Mosley is still ranked. He doesn't deserve to ranked. Let alone that high.

If it had been less then a year since he last fight at 147 theres no reason he shouldnt be ranked and ranked highly at that. Now ill agree he doesnt deserve to be ranked now only because he hasnt fought there in over a year thats the way its supposed to be I always thought. But if your saying he isnt as good or better then half that top 10 your just a pure hater. I know you dont care for the roids thing with him but dude give it a rest.

Im not talking roids or anything.

Im pointing out he has not fought there in over a year. And his last win was Collazo. He should be around 5/6. (And his last fight was at 154)

How is Mosley still ranked when his last fight was at 154?

It wont matter, Shane has a good chance to outbox Marg, even though he is past his prime.

basically even though Mosley is #3, he is not #2. And since Cotto beat Mosley and is ranked ahead of him, it would be stupid to have Margo vs Mosley for the ring championship.

Margo vs Cotto this summer will be for the ring belt, unless Williams moves back down to 147.

Margo isn't the Ring Magazine champ, so it all makes sense.

Although with the win over Cotto many consider Margo the welterweight champion anyway.

Williams didn't give up a title until after he won at 154 against Verno.

No sir, PBF retired with it, so now we won't have a WW Ring Champ until we can get the #1 and #2 rated fighters in the ring together (or sometimes #1 and #3, as I'm sure you know).

I do think this will be a hell of a fight though, and personally I can't wait for this one.

The only thing that will clear all this up is if

    - Margo wins against Mosely (should do).
    - Cotto annihilates Jenkins Gomes style.
    - Margo/Cotto II happens in summer 09.
    - And then the winner faces Williams late 09 or early 2010.

Long wait, but that clears it up. Unless Mosely clinics Margo and Jenkins puts bricks in his gloves - then crystal clear.

Shane barely got by Mayorga who is also well past his prime. I don't think that he has much of a chance against Margo but I have been wrong before.
