    There is no champ at 147 because there is no champ. If there were, THEN there would be a "glaring inconsistency". You wonder why everyone hates Pacquiao fans, they are fools whom know very little about anything to do with boxing. If you're going to talk like you know things, I suggest you know them.

    If you want to trace the recent lineage, here it is.

    Forrest => Mayorga => Spinks => Judah => Baldomir => Mayweather

    THEN...

    7/07: Williams beat Margarito and became the No. 1 ranked contender at welter.
    11/07: Cotto beat Mosley and became the No. 2 ranked contender.
    12/07: Mayweather "retired" after beating Hatton, vacating the lineal title according to Ring and everyone else.
    2/08: Williams loses to Quintana as well as the No. 1 ranking. Cotto now No. 1 contender, but not champ.
    6/08: Williams beats Quintana in a rematch and shoots back up to No. 2.
    7/08: Margarito, then No. 3, beats No. 1 ranked Cotto to take his spot, but no Ring belt awarded because Williams was No. 2.
    8/08: Williams moves up to 154 pounds, so Margarito now Ring's clear No. 1 contender.
    1/09: Mosley beats Margarito, shooting to No. 1.
    9/09: Mayweather returns and beats Marquez, taking the No. 2 spot behind Mosley.
    11/09: Pacquiao beats Cotto and overtakes Mayweather and Mosley in the Ring's welter rankings to become No. 1.
    5/10: No. 2 Mayweather beats No. 3 Mosley. No Ring belt awarded because Pacquiao is No. 1 contender.

    That's why the lineal title is still vacant.

    The only way I would recognize a Pacquiao-Mosley fight being for the vacant lineal title is if:

    1. Floyd goes into retirement again AND
    2. Berto moved up to 154,

    because it would mean the No. 2 (or 1 depending how you feel) and No. 3 would no longer be fighting, leaving the consensus two best fighters left (Pacquiao and Mosley) at welter.

    After that long diatribe, MANNY AND FLOYD NEED TO FIGHT LOL

    You said he's only fought Clottey, DLH at welter. And then you specified WW limit for everything else. Perhaps I should be more specific. No, Margo was NOT WW. I get that. It's funny that they bumped Manny for it seeing as how he was the only person who weighed in AS A WELTERWEIGHT. Manny has fought 3 fights at ww, 2 where it was at the full limit for the fighters. But he has still fought 3 fights at WW no matter how you try and sort it. 145 is within the welterweight range, making it a welterweight fight. Clearer now?

    I actually don't think Manny was number 1. He was number 1 p4p and people raised a stink about Mayweather being number WW but not number 1 p4p again. Manny wasn't number 1 til recently because Mayweather was clearly 2 as the returning lineal champ and Mosley was rated number 1 because of what happened while Mayweather was gone. He only recently moved back to number 1 on WW and p4p. If i'm not mistaken.

    If that's the case then Mayweather should be Ring champ again, because it would be a 1-2 matchup.

    you'd think. He vacated but never lost it so since he's no longer inactive, he should have been able to just step right in. I think the Ring wanted to hold on to that card though for if Manny and Floyd finally fought. Undisputed number 1 p4p and Lineal WW champion in one fight has a little more glitz to it.

    The fight was a contracted WW fight. It was in their contract at 145, but still a welterweight fight. What weight would it be considered at? There's no 145 pound belt or catch-weight belt. It's a WW fight.

    It's a catch weight fight.

    Again, for the reading comprehension challenged;

    The Cotto Pacquiao fight was *not* contested @ the WW limit of 147lbs.

    Can you not read?

    The fight was not contracted at the WW limit of 147lbs, but was contested in the welterweight division. How's that?

    when u limit your opponents weight, it invalidates the weight divisions and becomes a catchweight fight

    it was a catchweight fight, not a ww fight

    just because it falls within the weights that are the min-max for WW doesn't make it a WW fight if there are stipulations in place altering the standards
