per the latest issue with Saul Alvarez on the cover, a letter was published asking why Ring rates Floyd so highly. The editors note responding to the letter is as follows:

If Mayweather does not sign for a fight by May 1, the one-year anniversary of his both with Shane Mosley, he will be removed from both the divisional and pound for pound ratings for inactivity. It's important to remember that the divisional ratings are objective and based on results within the division. The pound for pound ratings are subjective, so opinion plays a significant role.

I see nothing wrong with the Ring's view on this particular matter.

special dispensation for inactivity should only be granted if a fighter is injured or suspended. mayweather's exile from the ring is self-imposed and he should be considered retired until he comes back.

He shouldn't be taken out of the ranking but they should make him go down the list like 8th or 9th place.

Make it painful for Floyd so he will fight for it again.

That's a hard argument to make though, as when Mayweather is fighting he clearly one of the top 2-3 on the planet, and his last win was against the guy rated #1 in his division. I see it more black and white, either he is fighting (top 2-3) or he is not (off the list).

What's the point of having Mayweather in their rankings if he's retired? Or is he retired? Either way he isn't fighting so what's the point of ranking him based on **** he did years ago.

Yea pull him out. It's such a shame he doesn't fight more often, for the fans and his own legacy. It's says a lot that someone as accomplished as Mayweather can be wasted potential at the same time

It's a damn shame, but it has to be done at this point. He sure takes his sweet time between fights.
