At the end of the day I think they have to go with the official decision.

Post fight, it was made out Dawson was being sent the Ring Belt.

The Ring has taken the right decision. Hopkins is still Champion until the controversial events are investigated.

The Ring belt in my opinion is overated and bias. If you keep saying its the best belt eventually people start to repeat it.
Remember how The Ring didnt give the belt to Michalczewski?
There is an article in Boxing Monthly Oct 2011 by G Houston about a former HW who has sadly passed away. But in that article there is a part that reads -
the tournament dissolved after revelations of falsified records, rigged ratings (supplied by a Ring magazine editor named Johnny Ort) -
I have no idea if that was anything to do with The Ring magazine itself or its ratings. The article wasnt about this and that was just a part written amongst it.
Another thing to consider about the Ring belt is that the champ can fight whoever they choose. Remember how Hopkins was Ring LHW champ and fought Wright fighting 2 divisions lower.

Consider how Ward was the #2 SMW then went to #1 for beating Bika who then #1 Bute beat previously. Or how Froch was put above Kessler in his very next fight after losing to Kessler by beating a fighter coming off a loss. Do you not think the ratings were suited to crown a ring champ?

He did beat both of them, dubiously maybe but that's what's on the ledger. Hardly evidence of a Goldenboy bias really.

It's on their website they're waiting until the issue is resolved, then they'll go with that decision.

More recent was Valuev-McCline even, though that officially went down as an RTD.

i'm disappointed the ring did not award their title to dawson today. there is a conflict of interest and even though they may be validated in the end, it's still leaves a bad smell. i have a feeling if roy jones would have been thrown down vs tarver in 2004, the ring wouldn't have had a problem giving their belt to tarver.

when the ring started to name champs again in 2002, the only fighters that were awarded belts were lewis, jones, hopkins and tzsyu. all of the fighters had won the three major belts (wba, wbc, ibf) and this is why the ring decided to name them as their champs. i understand if someone has a problem with them naming jones champ because dariusz also had a claim to the title as well.

bailey, the problem is that since you feel jones wasn't champ, it also means you have to feel that calzaghe was never champ at 175. the lineage went from jones, to tarver, to johnson, back to tarver, to bhop, to joe.
