The list is ok but I still don't understand why PacMan no. 1... Because of Morales and Barrera? Are they enough to be p4p no. 1? Marquez also defeated Barrera and Diaz or Raheem Morales... in addition JMM won last time - at least 70-75% thought so...

    1. Calzaghe
    2. PacMan
    3. JM Marquez
    4. Vasquez
    5. Cotto
    6. R Marquez
    7. Mijares
    8. Pavlik
    9. Calderon
    10. Hatton

Winner of Guzman-Campbell probably gets the place of Hatton.
Hopkins is not in as he is retired, otherwise he would be #4, Wright would be #5, but he is inactive...

Morales and Barrera would be also enough IF

    - Pacman had not been defeated (actually twice) by JMM
    - Morales had not been defeated by Raheem and Diaz as weel
    - Barrera had not been defeated by JMM as well

+ PacMan would be undefeated for 18 years
+ PacMan would have held his title for more than 10 years.

Pacquiao is close to be no. #1 but to achieve that position he has to beat Marquez and/or Guzman and/or Campbell and/or Casamayor.

2 out of these 4 names would be enough to put Pac at the top. However, as most people agree here, Pacman would be schooled by Guzman and that speaks for itself... how can you put someone #1 with a possibility of being schooled...

    * marquez has not defeated pac and it was not "actually" but it was just your opinion.
    * morales that raheem defeated just came from a brutal war from pac that could have contributed to his regression as a fighter. besides morales is more of weight drained on that fight even at 135.
    * the barrera that marquez defeated was a past-it barrera. pac not only defeated a berrera that is almost near his prime but demoilshed him.

    * well, if pac did a calzaghe and only fought on philippines, he would only have 1 defeat.
    * pac had done much greater things than defending a title for 10 years, he in fact move up in weight 5 times and became champion 4 times (3 were lineal) while fighting the established best fighters on his way up.

so calzaghe doesn't have to beat anyone to claim #1? is hopkins, kessler and manfredo bigger than morales, barrera and marquez?

why would guzman school pac? guzman is a really good fighter but his hype here at esb was really absurd. if someone here would state that pavlik would knock calzaghe, why would i put calzaghe at #2 when there is a possiblity that pavlik would knock him out. i am hyping pavlik though.

    kessler is MAB+JMM combined?:nut

43 year old hopkins is greater than JMM and obviously a decade younger:yep

The only complaints I have are Hatton and Hopkins. I don't believe Hatton deserves a place. Sure, he's only lost to Mayweather, but his recent wins aren't very impressive. Lazcano, shot Castillo, Urango and Maussa. It's not awe inspiring, and there are more deserving candidates

Hopkins...I don't know. How can a 6 round fighter be one of the top 10 in the world? But if we take that at face value, it must have been an outstanding win for Joe, and he has a claim for being #1.

Think I've argued the Hatton point with you before so wont again here...

Instead I agree with your Hopkins point. I dont have him in my personal top ten. If he was then Calzaghe is suddenly closer to Pac than he would have been. I'd probably still have Pac at #1 though given his win over JMM who I have above Hopkins.

I'm not sure you have, unless I'm suffering a bout of amnesia

I just don't get it. I take the point he only lost to Mayweather, that would stand up if had some wins that are top 10 worthy around that. He just doesn't

Look at Haye, who has beaten the man in his backyard, and a solid top 5 guy to unify his division in recent times. Or Dawson, who has soundly beaten Adamek who has gone on to be a contender at cruiser, and Glen Johnson. H2H, these are operating at a far higher level too.

    1. Manny Pacquiao
    2. Joe Calzaghe
    3. Juan Manuel Marquez
    4. Israel Vazquez
    5. Miguel Cotto
    6. Bernard Hopkins
    7. Christian Mijares (A Montiel win would take him to 6 imho)
    8. Kelly Pavlik
    9. Rafael Marquez
    10. Ivan Calderon
    11. Joan Guzman / Ricky Hatton / Nate Campbell

I think most definitely Bernard Hopkins will be out of this list come later this year.

    Okay then...

Hatton liner light welterweight champion and not looked like getting beat at that weight. Wins over Tszyu and Castillo are the top ten wins for me. I agree Castillo was not what he once was, but still a tough opponent and one of the top in the division at the time.

As for other people within top 10, I think Hatton has a better claim to be in the top ten than say someone like Pavlik who is yet to fight an established champion in my book. However, I've put Pavlik in there and above Hatton based on form and based on ability. Kelly can shoot up my rankings with a win over Kessler. Hatton for me now, cant really move up my list any further unless he was to go up to welter and succeed which isnt going to happen or those above him really start to decline. But he isnt going to drop neither unless those around him really make waves or he is beaten by Malignaggi.

    Short but my main points

I'm no fan of Pavlik, but he actually has much more of a claim

See, you have to go back to Tszyu to find something worthy of being top 10. I mean, is De La Hoya top 10 for his win over Mayorga, and his overall achievements? This is why there has to be a cut off point, the whole idea of these lists is to name the top 10 fighters at present

Hatton's recent wins, and even his performance levels have not been worthy. Urango and Maussa, he was unimpressive against mediocre opposition. Let's put Castillo into perspective, he got a very questionable decision against Ndougjo prior to Hatton. Since then he has struggled to make weight for numerous fights. There couldn't be much more evidence of him being shot, there really couldn't

There are plenty of more deserving fighters, I think I could name half a dozen that have done more in the last few years.
