http://www.ringtv.com/ratings/ theres the present rankings Things that stuck out to me is how strong the Classic divsions were in 1970 they were packed, also there was alot of veterans around which is the case today as well but there was more in 1970 IMO. However the ******* division are much stronger in the present days
McGrain you get ona t me for hijacking threads :good there not a greenish version of Monzon against an older Tiger :think interesting that think Tigers past it abit to much and Monzon wins
Wow, Monzon at NUMBER 10!!! Howard Cosell was so right in repeatedly referring to Monzon as the "unknown, unheralded Carlos Monzon" on that Wide World of Sports broadcast that showed the tape of Monzon knocking out Benvenuti. My how that would change.
Wow, Rodrigo Valdez at #2 to challenge Jose Napoles...an intriguing matchup I havent even considered. Looking at the whole roster of divisions, champs and contenders, I sure have to say that boxing was in great shape then.
Ho wabout compared to now, i just think Boxing was very strong in Light, Wleter and Middle and the rest were about the same as they are now
yeh, im not too knowledgeable on the lower weights of that period what guys make it so good? Obviously, Ohba, Gonzalez,Rudkin, McGowan, Chinoi, C;ark, Castillo, Sakurai, Olivares, Fammechon, Jofre, Legra, Saldivar, Shibata
Nearly ALL those guys in all the divisions I remember with the highest regards..they were the guys who kept me engrossed in this sport...that made an absolute addict of me (lol).
Seeing that makes me wonder why Liston never got a shot again. Not in 1970 (As he wasn't alive) but earlier. If he was ranked then, he must have been ranked sometime earlier. I guess the 2 Ali fights were really big losses and drops for him.
