The history of Ring Magazine is a very good one, and more often than not their fighter of the year pick is a good one.

The problem is this. Their pick for 2015 is Tyson Fury. The worst pick I ever saw.

As much as I like the magazine, I can not or will not defend this.

I suppose they are putting a lot of emphasis on Fury beating Wlad from a historical perspective....beating a HW champ who hadn't been beaten in 10+ years is certainly a big deal and will be remembered as such, but ONLY if Fury beats Wlad in a rematch. Otherwise he'll be remembered as another Buster Douglas.

Wasn't an impressive performance, but it was a huge win. Ring has historically given the big awards to the heavyweights. I can live with it as long as they don't call it fight of the year

I agree. The heavyweights have gotten the most ink historically.

Certainly the biggest win of the year in what is historically the most important division in the sport, who else would you pick?

And while no one can compare this to the Douglas victory over Tyson it was still a pretty big upset.

I'm not big on Fury but it was a massive win. Beating the heavyweight champion who hadn't lost in 11 years? Who else should have got the vote?

Tbf this is a fair choice.

They went wrong when they decided to reintroduce a lineal policy, but not for the lineal champions. Hard to take em seriously after that.

How many knew fans to the sport get embroiled in the DM - RJJ debate? How many old fans of the sport for that matter.

Would have been so easy for them and the media to back DM after beating Hill.

The fight was dull. Tyson at least was in his prime when he lost to Douglas. Wlad was close to 40.

Gonzlaez, GGG, or Canelo are better choices.

Give it a few years, this pick will have even more laughing.

It hasn't held the same type of legitimacy as it did in last century. When Fleischer was running the show over there, it was considered the premier read for boxing- it was the "Bible of boxing."

It's a shame what's happened to it this century, especially after Oscar purchased it. Now he can monopolize the rankings to favor his fighters. It's become a sham.

Hardly anyone gave Fury a chance going into this fight but he defied the odds and easily pulled of the biggest win of the year. Wlad was a 10 year reigning Champ ffs. Give Fury some credit, he's a very intelligent boxer, knew he was comfortable throughout the fight so didn't need to take any risks. Wlad was too afraid to let his arms go in the fight.
