Has this magazine been a joke since the beginning or is this a recent thing?

I thought the list sucked back then and it still sucks. In fact, most lists suck. If you don't agree with a list, you're just disagreeing with some other guy's opinion..and that's all lists are, just opinions. In this case, they're just bad opinions..but for sure, the Ring has been on a steady roll downhill for years..it's far worse today. It was a pretty good magup until the late 70's..certailmly more reliable with more, uh,...gravitas...than it has in recent years.

That's a pretty good list. Although FCoreman is way too high and should never be above Frazier. Fenech should be top 50 and Les Darcy should be top 20. Also Billy Conn is way way too low.

I agree that Conn is too low..so is Monzon and Napoles...and where the hell is Locche? The greatest ever defensive artist isn't even in the picture? I don't argue with SRR being at #1. but it's BS after that.
Eder Jofre is rated too low...i guess it dosen't count if you never see a guy fight. Ignorance is bliss.

Pryor being 32 spots ahead of Hearns is outrageous.

'Gravitas' that gave us the US Boxing Championship. Oh yes, The Ring was pretty good in the mid 70s.

But to be fair, as you suggest it was reliable; reliably corrupt, and proven as well, unlike some of the allegations against fellow alphabet crappers...

Henry Armstrong at #2 is certainly not BS. Not even if it was a flat out All-Time List! :deal :yep

He beat him in the amateurs! How do you do your lists? I do mine based off of Mustache quality and amateur victories. :bart
