Ring Magazine's "Fight of the Year" should be named after Arturo Gatti.

He went to jail a couple months ago for domestic abuse.

Not like that has to deal with what he did in the ring though. Lots of great or exciting fighters had some real demons in their personal lives.

Even though Gatti was no Duran or Chavez he was still a GREAT fighter and entertainer. He was the definition of what fight fans want in a fighter.

These dumbass new fans to boxing seem to have started watching after Gatti was past it and got annahliated by PBF.

This guy Gatti died outside of the ring for some reason not related to boxing. I think there are more deserving fighters who died with their boots on, so to speak, like this HOF Filipino fighter who fought w/ a sore infected tooth and died after the fight. His name is Pancho Villa.

I have my opinion about this guy Gatti and I don't think we should reward mediocrity by lending his name to a prestigious FOY award. Did he ever qualify for the HOF? With due respect to his person, his only achievement is to go the distance against some fighters. He fights w/ intensity? Yes, but that is not enough to immortalize him w/ an important award.

That I could go with, it should be done.

As for the fiht of the year I'm not so sure, there have been warriors that have come before him and it is still the fight of the year.

Maybe if he had died in the ring.
