Good points. Let's face it, neither Rafa nor Izzy is going to be a serious factor again any time soon. Those two more than deserve their place on the list, but it's more out of respect at this point than anything else. Obviously a fighter like Williams or Dawson is more deserving of one of those spots in terms of current ability. Or the eventual winner of the Super 6, but good luck seeing them get any Ring consideration with the GBP/ HBO tie ins. Add Wonjongkam to the list of foreign fighters who will go unrecognized. Dude has held the WBC flyweight belt for almost a decade with only one loss.
Good point on Wonjongkam. I'm a bit ashamed to admit even I forgot about him until you just mentioned him. :verysad
I'm curious is that the real top 10 p4p list in 99? If so then i got a question, How in the world is Mayweather number 2 p4p ahead of undefeated Trinidad and a prime De la hoya?
Very fair question. But the list comes out of Dougie's Monday mailbag, and I really, really don't think he would have Floyd listed at #2 by accident. If it were up to him I'm not sure Floyd would have been on any P4P list ever. :think
Actually Doug Fischer has given props to Floyd's record at 130 and 135 time and again in his mailbags.
This just proves the point of how if the USA doesnt put out anymore great fighters no other countries produce many people of note. Its pathetic really in a country that doesnt even care for the sport.
I don't disagree with you (although it's not some big conspiracy, just that most of the voters are American and vote for the people they actually see), but it's a damn hard argument to make that any of those guys' resumes is better than Dawson's. Wlad you could make the case for on a H2H basis, but the fact that he's a large heavyweight will always hurt him on pound for pound lists. Another two fitting that description are Calderon, who has popped on and off of the lists from time to time, and John, who it almost seems absurd to leave off in favor of guys like Donaire. I have no idea who's dick Nonito sucked to get ranked that high. He had one good win two years ago, and looked pretty average in his last fight.
