Other than I think Alcine is too low....there isnt much wrong with it.

(OH GOD TRAVIS SIMMS.......I HATE seeing that name, what a waste of talent....:verysad )

I agree that Simms was a talent but i think Alcine is really being underrated here. Alcine's win over Simms is arguably the most impressive win by anyone in this division. And now he is stepping up again in his mandatory defence against Daniel Santos another dangerous guy at LMW who holds a win over Margarito back in 2004, and recently a close fight against Dzinziruk coming off a 15 month layoff. Also Santos has a win over Zuniga

I remember seeing him against Garcia, McKart and Rivera thinking he might be the best fighter alive. Then he lost all that time with the lawsuit...then he just didnt show up vs Alcine.

    Oh what could have been.

    Yup

The TRAVIS SIMMS EXPRESS has long been derailed. It was a fun ride while it lasted.

the Riveira fight was like 6 months before the Alcine fight and also after all those lawsuits.

The difference in quality between Riveira and Alcine was just too big.

I started the whole thing....I still lose sleep at night thinking of all the poor souls I took with me.

Seriously tho, for that short period of time...he looked like the real deal. Power, accuracy, timing, defense, speed, footwork, chin, movement...If you go back and watch those three fights, he looked like what "the perfect fighter" would look like if I were piecing one together.

Never been more wrong about something in my life as a boxing fan.

    :verysad

(is it weird that everytime I make a post about Simms, I cant help but use this smilie ---> :verysad ...has one emotion ever summed up a fighter better???)

I still contend that he took Alcine tooooooo lightly. WAAAAY too lightly. I think Alcine is a fine fighter, but whenever Travis worked in that fight, he won...clearly....he just didnt work enough. He came in sluggish, looking uninterested. Remember he said he was going to KO Alcine early (big mistake...), I really dont think he trained for the fight like he normally would. Classic case of overlooking your opponent.

I realize it was only 6 months after the Rivera fight...but it wasnt the time he lost (its not like he got old overnight or anything), it was the time he wasted. Once he finally lost to Alcine, he was just too old to do anything else (he is 36 years old now).

I don't wanna go back and forth with you on this one but here in Montreal its a well known fact that Alcine was at about 60-70% for this fight. We found out after the fight that he had a stomach virus all week leading into the fight and he said in a post fight interview he just hadn't fully recovered by fightnight. Just some food for thought. I would definately like to see a rematch though.

Seriously though having him at 6th and Dzinziruk at 7th is rediculous

    Oh I totally agree.

I think Alcine should in the top 4 (anywhere from 2-4 is easily arguable).

Regardless tho about how Alcine came into the fight...he came in HUNGRY. You could see it from the opening bell. What you could also see from the opening bell is the general disregard Simms had for his opponent. He was anything BUT hungry. And that was his biggest mistake. When you see him just 6 months previous...and you watch him that night...he was two entirely different fighters.

He only has himself to blame tho...

(But Im telling ya....go watch some old Simms fights...he was an ABSOLUTE MARVEL!!! The perfect fighter....vs very good competition as well)

Thats the only reason I would keep him out. He is definately a top 5 talent in the division...but over Forrest, De La Hoya, Alcine, Phillips and Spinks??? I cant really make an arguement for him based on who he has fought so far....at least not over those 5. But again, off talent and potential....most definately!
