They have officially taken Deontay Wilder out of the top 3 (yes I know he is ranked 3 but I am counting CHAMPION too).

The new top 3 heavyweights (including the champ) are Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Dillian Whyte. Do you guys think this is fair?

Let's see. Wilder has two knockout wins over the #4 contender. And he scored two knockdowns and a draw with the current World Champion.

Whyte has a controversial decision over the #7 contender, who floored him. And a decision over the #9 contender, who also floored him.

So, of course it's not representative of the top three heavyweights are.

But Wilder gets the first shot at the champion when everyone returns to action. So the ratings don't really matter.

The only guy who can win the World Heavyweight title in 2020 is Deontay Wilder.

Yes, it's clear that Whyte should be ahead of Wilder in the rankings based on their resumes.

Wilder's best wins: Ortiz x 2, Duhaupas, Washington and Breazeale.

Whytes best wins: Parker, Rivas, Chisora x 2 and Helenius.

    It's clear cut.

Wilder is fortunate to be ahead of Parker, Ruiz, Hunter and Povetkin in the rankings.

Ring is picking wilders ring piece by having him no3. He's more like no7 with the gimp costume.

I would rank Wilder ahead of Whyte, whose accomplishments IMO are grossly overrated. But Wilder is coming off of a devastating loss so It's normal to see him drop a couple of spots.

I can see Wilder a 3,4 or 5. Ortiz maybe 9 or 10 unless pickins are that slim.

Apart from the top 3 or 4 it looks a poor division, didn’t realise until actually looking at it. Mostly guys way past their ‘best’ or others who will struggle. I’m yet to be convinced by Whyte also.
Maybe it’s time for the young guns to step up ( Dubois, Hrgovic etc ).
I’m no Wilder fan but maybe his resume isn’t as bad as first thought !

Ruiz is at 5 but his win over Joshua is more than Wilder or Ortiz have ever done. Not to mention a lot had him beating Parker.

So Wilder should be #2 because he has two wins over #4? OK, you've set out your stall, now let's explore this further.

Who has Ortiz beat to be ranked as highly as #4? Ruiz beat Joshua, Parker beat Ruiz, Whyte beat Parker, Povetkin and Pulev both have far deeper resumes than Ortiz and Hunter has a draw with Povetkin. All of those guys should be rated higher than Ortiz, leaving Ortiz as #9. But if Ortiz is only #9, than Wilder's two KO wins suddenly don't mean as much.

Apply your own logic uniformly and it collapses spectacularly. Your argument effectively debunks itself the moment you assess all fighters the same way you assessed Wilder.

For what it's worth, I agree with you that Wilder should be given the benefit of the doubt and ranked #2 behind Fury and Joshua. But toting two wins over an overrated never-has-been in his mid forties as your proof simply isn't being objective.

    This guy gets it. :deal:

Wilder was also knocked down by Nichols but he couldn't knock down Nichols himself.

Wilder just lost.... Get over it.

How was the Rivás decision controversial? Everyone and their dog scored it for Whyte.

I don't agree with Wilder dropping out of the top 3 to be replaced by Whyte. The reverse wouldn't have happened had Fury lost. He should drop to 3rd if he wasn't already there.

Just responding to the "most guys past their best" part.
It actually improves my respect for Chisora. He can't win the big one, but continues to outlast the hype job fighters! I'm starting to wonder if belts will change hands...and not only will Derek still be a gatekeeper- but a helluva test...even then!

It also doesn’t show where they were ranked at the time of the fight or how they were regarded.

Not that it matters, he will have the opportunity to redeem himself in the rematch eventually.
