Ring top 10 HW question I was looking at the new Ring HW top 10. Obviously after Saturday there has been some changes but at number 10 The Ring has put in Justis Huni who is 10-0 Not looking to take anything away from any brave person entering the ring and wishing the best for anyone but is there a reason he would be rated higher than several other HWs There are a few I can think of who I thought would be rated higher Have I missed something? Educate me
The Ring top 10 has always been as slapdash as all the other ratings, they just included all the sanctioning body champs, which the orgs don't do in theirs. So Ring ratings always seemed more relevant. But, in 2022, they didn't even do that. They stripped Fury of the Ring title and refused to rank him for half the year, ostensibly because he said he was going to retire ... when nobody believed he would, he never relinquished his WBC belt, didn't retire and fought more times that year than Usyk or Joshua did - who fought for the vacant Ring belt. Long story short, there is no reason. They just like him. So he's in. If they don't like you, you're out. If they do, you're in.
All ratings are just compiled by guys who are fans who don't have a billion dollars in oil money and want to have some (any) control over the sport.
You've probably missed quite a lot. Fortunately for you, the lads at The Ring are on the job. Huni's career so far: World Junior Amateur Champion (2016), Bronze medalist at the Senior World Amateur Championships (2019), qualified for the 2020 Olympics but didn't go due to injury, won the Australian H/W title on professional debut (first person to ever do that), faced & defeated two undefeated medalists from recent World Amateur Championships (2017) in his first six pro fights (who does that?), defeated the iron-chinned rugby league gladiator Paul Gallen in his fifth (who does that?) & has beaten Andrew Tabiti & Kevin Lerena fighting away from home without the protection of a home commission (who does that?). Was badly hurt early & late against Lerena but didn't go down & made it to the finish line. Possesses exceptional hand & foot speed for a big man.
Unrelated, but I did see your question to me regarding Brian Nielsen about a week ago and meant to get back to you on that. No, I don't think he deserves to be in the IBHOF
I am aware that he had a good amateur career but those ratings are for (or at least I thought) for what you do as a professional Whilst he may go on to do big things he hasn't scored any wins as big as several other HWs that I would have guessed would have been above him
I neglected to mention - 'Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee'. Maybe that's why they put him in?
Whilst I know it is possible for anyone to beat anyone, do you not think that the ratings should be on results Chisoras last win was over a top 10 rated opponent from the same publication Whyte has a decent resume Both for example
I don’t know that I would have Huni quite as high as 10 right now. But he’s not that far off it that I would say that Ring have it wrong. Huni is very good. He lacks a bit of power at this stage but he’s going to be a handful if he finds a KO punch.
I still can't see how he has leaped over some of the HWs including some that have recently had losses I would think that the fighters below would still have been rated higher Hrgovic, Ruiz, Miller, Whyte, Chisora and Joyce I would think would be rated above.
They've completely lost the narrative, not that they really had it.................but it's totally gone now. Huni and Ajagba being in the top 10 is worse than them having Anderson in the top 10. None of these men should be there.
There are a few that I would have thought would have been rated above That's not to take anything away from them though That's why I was wondering if I had totally missed something
