Ever watched a ring walk and had that feeling you were about to see a special night? This content is protected 8:15 Here's my favourite to date. Any others?
It wasn't what I'd call a "special" fight, but when George Foreman and Gerry Cooney entered the ring there was a certain electrical feeling about it. Numerous celebrities and fighters were in attendance, even more so than usual. Both guys were seen as elder statesmen of the game and there was a certain feeling of respect about them being in their together at this stage in their lives.. As it turned out, the affair was short, but for the five or so minutes that they fought they made it an evening.
When Hamed came riding in the ring sitting on a throne above the ring on cables to fight Barrera and some Barrera fan doused him with beer. Laughed my tail off and the thumping Barrera gave him made it a special night.
Hearns vs Leonard # 1, 2 undeafeated greats. All prime Tyson's fights, blk shoes, blk, trunks, no robe, and that atmosphere of pure menace. L.Holmes, "Ain't no stopping us now". Only the real fight fans know what I'm talking about lol. "Note". Just joking to the boxing fans who take themselves to seriously.
Hopkins-Trinidad The shout out to Hamed-Barrera is classic. Hamed's ringwalks were trash. Tacky. When he came in and that fan doused him that was classic, then when he couldnt flip into the ring because his gloves were wet... Well, it was just a foreshadowing that things werent going Hameds way that night. He never recovered. The funny thing is watching that fight live George Foreman kept coming up with excuses for Hamed and acting like he was somehow in the fight because of his power. Hameds reaction to his first loss was very similar to Foremans, neither guy ever really recovered from it.
Special shoutout to Homer Simpson entering the ring to "why cant we be friends" in his fight with Drederick Tatum.
Frank Bruno ring walk in his second fight against Tyson. It was special in that I never thought I would see someone as big and as massively built as the 6'4 mighty muscled Bruno look so terrified on the walk to the ring. Like a man walking to his own execution.
Sergey Kovalev's ring walk against Andre Ward left a strong impression on me. His chilling entrance music where the saxophone sounded like life forcibly leaving the body, his cold ring walk and then the look of emotionless death in his eyes was a thing of horror. Only if you like seeing someone beat the crap out of a human being who had serious addictive issues.Gerry was an alchoholic at the peak of his illness. Everyone close to that fight knew that. Not an event to applaud.
Cooney was clean by the time he met Foreman... And it wasn't the fight itself that made the ring entry special.. Thanks for your two cents though.
