    :good

But is he #3? Sometimes they make exceptions for the #3 challenger.

the ring is just following their rules. sultan is the #6 contender, not #2 or #3.

Silly as it may seem, they are just following regulations in not recognizing Wlad as champion for beating a guy who they don't rank at #2 or even #3. If ever there were a case for exception, this would be it, since Wlad already beat their #2 guy and would have beaten five top 10 opponents in his last six fights, all in clear-cut fashion, but I can't smear them too badly for this.

their ratings and system are flawed. 4 fighters: peter, chagaev, iggy, and maskaev could be rated #2. arguments could be made for and against any of them. When it is clear one man stands above the rest, it just seems foolish that he has to beat an inferior fighter who he already beat to be called "champ".

if one of these guys stood out and made it clear they are #2, then the ring would have a logical point. but to base your argument on "it's the rules" is pretty narrow-sighted.

if they can make an exception for vitali who beat #3 sanders, they should analyze this situation and come to a similar conclusion. wlad would be far more deserving of the title than vitali was.

If a rule is stupid and illogical, why follow it? Question and change it :think

i guess the logic behind the fishnet at #3 is mosley apparently has left 154, ouma lost to roman, karmazin lost to bunema.

the fishnet hasn't won any fights @ 154 since may 2006, and lost to a welterweight who never fought at 154 before (although it was floyd and not some ordinary welter), so his ranking at #3 is questionable as well.

I don't debate for one second that Wlad is the number one heavy in the world. I think people are getting a little obsessed with the Ring & De La Hoya. Despite the flaws, WBC/WBA/IBF unification is still the way forward.

I am telling you that the week before the fight, DLH was #3. Mosley was no longer part of 154 at the time, he had fought Collazo at 147. Ouma had lost as well.

When I looked at the rankings previous to that fight, Spinks was the #1 rated fighter (he had beaten Karmarzin) and DLH was #3. I don't dispute your rankings, but I am positive of my recollection of the rankings the week before the fight. And we know the rankings you're posting aren't right up until the fight because Mosley has been rated at 147 since he beat Collazo. There was a big to do on the boards about how highly Mosley was ranked there, because of how it effected Margarito and Cotto's ranking.

Regardless of the Ring policies, Wlad is a consensus top notch Hwt in da World so it doesn't really matter ( they had him number 55 in their P4P top 100 just recently) but again, there are many around here looking past Ibragimov and that is highly inappropriate - we are talking about an undefeated heavy handed and tricky guy who has the same foundations/schooling/discipline as Klitschko... Plus, he's a southpaw with a heavy, consistent left and you must remember the last 30 s of the 1st round and the first 30 s of the 2nd round against Corrie Sanders. Same kinda thing, Wlad has to take the fight to him and risks getting countered very hard.

i believe they did it with sanders #3 and vitali #1. putting the rankings aside, it's clear wlad's case to be called "the" champ would have far more footing than vitali's did. it just doesn't make sense to me.

Part of me would find it amusing if Wlad got KO'd again & part of me would be annoyed because I couldn't see Iggy striving for unification.
