Iggy makes his farewell fight but he may change his mind on victory. Even if Wlad wins, nobody expects him to give a shot at the WBO mandatories like Tony T and concentrate most on HWT unification past-Povetkin and IBF mandatory title defense ( Summer 08???). The fight that can really lead to the serious concept of one Heavyweight Championship is definitely Peter vs Maskaev - a whole lot of situations will unfold from that outcome, I believe.

they already created the exception with vitali. Are u gonna tell me, vitali was more deserving than wlad would be. Where is the logic in that?

Moot point because I didn't agree with that ruling either. WBC/WBA/IBF. I want to see it.

Wlad's fighting the number 4 or 5 ranked Heavyweight, not the number 2. The fact that he's going the easier route and fighting the WBO champ Iggy, might have something to do with it as well IMO.

ibragamov has zero claim to the title so beating him amounts to nothing more than where he is at right now, in fact the lineage of the WBO title comes from Wlads loss to Brewster for the vacant belt, so Wlad becomes the champion of Wlad dom. The lineal champion of the WBO who vacated/was stripped [Sanders, who beat Wlad] fought Vitali for the WBC belt to succeed Lewis.

The WBC title was the true lineage from Lewis`s retirement. Since Vitali retired with it and the Ring belt and is coming back to fight whoever holds the WBC title then he will hold the true claim to the true title if he beats Maskaev/Peter. That will be a greater claim then Wlads, of course they will never unify against each other, but whoever holds the WBC by the end of this year is the true heir.

To be fair to Wlad no other unification was viable at this time.

I agree with you. However Ring Magazine rules say during a time of vacany a #1 must beat a #2 or #3 to be called the Ring Magazine champion.

Here's how it can work. Ibragimov I think is rated #4 or #5 by Ring Magazine right now. I suppose Ring Magazine could move Maskaev down for in-activity. I suppose they could move Peter down for his showing vs McCline, and bump Ibragimov up 2 spots if they wanted to.

Maybe that can happen before the fight. In truth, Iggy has looked better thab Peter or Chagaev as of late.

Another option is for Ring Magazine to amend their rules. They could say in a time of no Ring Magazine champion, an champion who holds 2 or more belts from the WBC, IBF, WBO, or WBA is the new Ring Magazine champion.

I understand that, I was just making the point that Iggy is not the number 2 guy out there, both Chagaev and Peter have proven more over the last 2 years IMO.

Ok. It is still not the rankings I recall, but perhaps I viewed them after the fight.

The Ring, rightly, don't recognise the WBO so Wlad would still not be considered Ring champ.

    Agreed.:good

That's ridiculous, Wladimir is trying to unify and Peter is already booked to fight Maskaev. Instead of sitting on his ass and waiting he decided to be active and pick up another belt in the process. Wladimir is doing the right thing.

good point. I agree that wlad is the #1 heavy but he's gotta beat the number 2 in their rankings for them to give him their belt. Thats just their rules. People shouldnt get all sad about it.
