This months Ring held a poll to establish where Wladimir Klitschko's stands in the scheme of things now he has retired. Ten writers were asked to give their 10 picks of the best heavyweights over the last 30 years,[from1987]. None had Wlad at number one.One writer made him number 2, two had him at number 3,four had him at number4,one at number 5,one at 6 ,and one at 7. Holyfield made the number one slot 5 times, was second 4 times, and fifth on the other vote.Lewis was number five with 5 voters, and number2 on the five remaining votes. Hence Lewis came out on top overall. Here is the poll. 1.Lewis 2.Holyfield 3Tyson 4.W Klitschko 5 V Klitschko 6.Bowe 7.Foreman 8.Moorer 9.Ibeabuchi 10.Byrd
It looks about right to me. I'd probably have the top four as : 1. Holyfield 2. Lewis 3. Wlad 4. Tyson
If you argue with that you're splitting hairs, I think Holyfield at his best beats them all mind, although saying that he lost to Bowe. Just goes to show these lists basically mean bugger all.
Same is true for Lewis and Wlad as well. Interesting list. Would have Wlad above Holyfield and Tyson. Lewis at one. But I like it.
You can not be taken seriously Mr. Pig. To quote you on Vitali, " The amount of traction he has got for being big and white, I will never understand. " But you're fine with this list? Bahahaha, get out of here. Ring Magazine who once said Holyfield was the 3rd best heavyweight of all time out of the 50 they spoke about continues to over rate him.
Pretty good list. Since the recent Lewis vs Frazier super-thread, I've gone back and watched a loooot of Lewis fights (plus Frazier vs Foreman). Think I'm flip-flopping there. I certainly underrated Lewis. However, I still think a prime Tyson does him. The long and short of it is that I agree with the fighters they have in the top six. Not necessarily in that order, though.
Why do I get the strong feeling that if Frazier featured prominently on them ,you would be giving them a lot more credence and gravitas?lol
No proof =no argument. We are matching them as they actually were not some hypothetical versions. Marciano fan boys always do this too, because they know that saying Marciano beats men 45/50 lbs heavier makes them look silly, they resort to,"well if he were around today he would be 220lbs!" Possibly he would an he would be slower and with less stamina too! Lewis turned pro weighing 231lbs that's 26lbs heavier than Frazier's best weight.
Yeah he is not great, but I can't really argue with him being 5th, because no one else was better. Doesn't change the fact that people like you vastly overrated him.
