Mayorga had plenty of natural talent; could bang hard with either hand, he had prety quick hands as well, strong physically, and of course a strong chin... and he wasn't without his own set of skills. Since he was the smaller, quicker man in this fight he was actually outboxing Tito at certain points in this fght. However, what he lacked were technical fundamentals. His punching technique was awful, his rigid legs caused him to move and fall off balance, and don't even get me started on his wide open defensive guard and basically a complete lack of upper body defensive skills... but even with all his flaws he probably could've remained a top threat even till now if he hadn't moved out of the welterweight division. That was the biggest mistake he made in his career.
Same... I've been ringside for a couple cool finishes but never for an all out slugfest like that. With teh way I jump and cheer for an exciting fight I'll probably lose my voice by about the 2nd round. :yep
Mayorga had some boxing skills. Surprisingly, he actually boxed really well against Mosley and gave him hell even though he lost.
Oh, and Mayorga letting Tito hit him with four left hooks is the single most badass thing I've ever seen happen in a boxing ring. :good
The atmosphere, Mayorga's antics, and my adoration for Tito all conspired together to make this fight one of my top 5 faves all time.
