Thank god Berto can't draw flies to ****. Me and 3 buddies with no tickets in hand get in the car at about 5:30pm and make the drive up I-95. It was raining really bad, roads were very slick. We get there, run to the box office 4 ring side tickets available. Matter of fact they had every ticket in all price ranges available. This content is protected Oh yeah, I really really really F'ed up big time and forgot to bring my Camera. I just got it for X-mas,I got a 12 mega-pixel Canon and all I got to show are these horrible Blackberry pics. So on to the show. We get there in time to see Latimore beating up on Dennis Sharpe. This was kinda of sad and threw me off a bit. It was very clear from the 3rd row that Sharpe was not in this fight and was getting a beating. But no one seemed to want to stop the fight. This was not competitive at all and we did not enjoy this fight. Next up was Thomas Dulorme vs Harrison Cuello. Hey-Zues! Dulorme hit Cuello with a left hook that sounded as if he had wood in his gloves. It really sounded crazy, Like a bat hitting something. Next up was the Main Event, I was in a weird place by this point. As most know I am not a fan of Berto,But I was sitting with Berto's family. I talked with his family members and members of his team, all good people depending on him to win, and his Sister is a lil cutie! lol As the ring walks start you can really feel the energy, The MGM at Foxwoods is a really great place for boxing. It is very intimate, The crowd is small 3,000 people or so...But everyone there is really excited. One thing about this crowd is that it seems to be all family and friends, everyone knows each other. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected By now everyone has seen the fight or read a professioal write up on it so I will save you from my feeble attempt. But one thing I do want to say, After watching it again on HBO, The body work that Victor Ortiz put on Berto was not really accounted for. Ortiz was punishing Berto's body. Berto would find himself with his back on the ropes and Victor would rip him to the body with both hands. Ortiz took Berto's legs with those body shots, you could see it in Berto's face. Now on to the best part of the night! The Casino floor and Bar.. I got to meet Larry Merchant, Emanuel Steward and Andy Lee. I took a pic with Steward on my Blackberry but had the zoom all the on so all i got was a distorted pic of his nose and mouth. but the real gems of the night were Harold Letterman and Luis Collazo. Harold Letterman talked boxing with me for like 30 minutes. We talked about almost every fight this year and fights to come. I told him several times if he had to go that i understood. And he would just tell me not to worry about and we just kept talking. This content is protected SO after talking to Letterman and a few more drinks at the bar we head to the food court that was just about closing. As we are sitting there eating and talking about what a great night we had, I see luis Collazo. I jump up out my seat like "Lou" The dude came over gave me and the crew daps and talked boxing with us. Just like Harold he was very generous with his time. Lou said he is available for fights at 147 and 154, I told him that I thought he couldn't make 147 anymore he said"nahhhhh I got that" lol. He is really a down to earth humble dude. Shouts to Collazo and Letterman for taking the time out and giving back to the fans. This content is protected
Nor did the underlying infrastructure. Did that first round KD look like it was a game changer? Berto's body language and facial expression made it seem like he was really done early but kept up one hell of a battle in spite of it. I think I under estimated him before this fight.
Like it was over! It didnt seem like he was going to recover. Ortiz legs looked really good in this fight. I think it's what saved him, at 140 i don't think he can get up from that punch.
It wasn't the KD as it was a body shot. I believe it was a uppie to the solar plexes. Hermie those body shots were really taking it out of Berto.
That was my big question about the fight. Would Ortiz be out gunned going up. I think we are starting to see better fights from some guys that have stopped trying to cut so much damned weight before a fight. Pac on roids or just stronger not cutting? I've been saying the second.
Crazy. As soon as Berto jumped back on him and began pounding him, I couldn't envisage Ortiz making it out of the round. And yes, despite seeing him desperately panting for air inbetween the middle rounds, I thought his conditioning and heart saw him through.
People **** all over boxing judges scoring sometimes but TV is not ringside. I actually find it much easier to score a round if I am close to the action.
Very good point. We are seeing it more and more. Khan can now take a better shot now too. These guys drying out are hurting themselves.
