Great show from ringside barely had to ask a question with those three.

 

Haye needs a mixture of what the three of them where saying, but Jim Watt was more correct. McGuigan seemed to want Haye to act as a pressure fighter in this fight, back Wlad up and take him to the ropes. Not a great idea if you're trying to minimise the amount of right hands you're gonna take.

Hatton had the right idea of getting inside on Wlads punches, but Ricky did it on the right hand, while the advise should've been do it on Wlads jab. Hatton also made the mistake of advising him to block punches. That's a big no no for Haye. He doesn't have the tools to sit there and block the punches with his gloves. First blocked punches get through on you a lot more, you become stationary and Haye will present Wlad with a bigger base target for that right hand. It'll also be harder to counter off of. Haye just doesn't have the style or defense to try it. His hands are far to low. Another thing Hatton was doing was getting on the inside of punches, Haye needs to get on the outside. On the inside he'll be more vulnerable, whilst on the outside of a punch you lessen the risk as you're on the blind angle of your opponent and not in hitting range.

What they didn't mention is there's different types of jabs. Some jabs Haye could actually parry and people shouldn't get mixed up between a parry and a block. They're two very different motions. Haye could in theory parry some of Wlads jabs, it's dangerous to attempt it because you have to know what type of jab is being thrown.

There's basically three ways Haye can counteract Wlads jab. Blocking, Parrying and Slipping. It's obvious one he has in his makeup to do is to slip. First of all slipping a jab makes the right hand the perfect punch to counter with. Haye's best punch. Secondly Haye relies on his reflexes and athleticism to avoid punches, which lends itself to the slipping option. Thirdly, and this is boxing 101. When you block a jab from a right hander the punch you counter with is another jab. With the Hayemakers and wild punches David throws slipping is the ideal defensive movement to counter off of with those punches.

Barry and Ricky where not being realistic in terms of what Haye can do and what he's shown in the past. As has been said Watt was spot on. I keep saying it but Haye will fight his normal fight of counter punching with big Hayemakers and moving in and out of range. He'll depend on trying to walk Wlad into something big.

None of them talked about his feet, which are gonna be so important. As he needs a lot of changing of the distance to offset Wlad. Haye needs a lot of stepping across Wlad by bringing his front foot outside of Wlads lead.

 

I'd love to of seen one of them try use lateral movement in that ring

 

although i would love to see haye go in all guns smashing away and unleash chaos straight off, i think this will be similiar to the harrison bout(notice i didnt say fight). haye will circle one step out of range cos most of what vlad does comes straightdown the pipe.
this cuold be a stinker as haye and vlad both look to counter

thats the best ringside has been in along time. mind you did feel sorry for macklin and brook as there fights are this weekend and only got a little airtime

I thought Watt was fantastic, although unlike others I have always been a fan of his commentating as well Felt a bit sorry for him when they were talking about big fight mentality etc. and they only asked him about the Arguello fight rather than the Davis Jr fight.

McGuigan was great too as usual. And tbf I don't mind Nelson half as much in these kinda episodes rather than when he has to do any real presenting.

 

I'm still watching footage, breaking it down in my mind and looking for habits. But just over a week to go i'm picking Wlad.

I'll say this though, i'm giving Haye more of a chance by the day. And it's not the hype or patriotism getting to me either.
